Biking (MTB) 30:00 [3]
shoes: Red Dragon SS
Loaded the packraft on the handle bars and put the rest of the paddling gear in my pack. I rode from Chamna up through W.E. Johnson park and continuing up to the Hyde road boat launch. I got a little turned around in WEJ park, but it was my first time exploring there. It looks like it would get mega-sandy in the summer. I rode directly under a massive hornets nest hanging from a tree but thankfully no stings. Once I got up to the boat launch I inflated the raft and loaded my bike.
Paddle (packraft) 1:15:00 [3] 4.5 mi (16:40 / mi)
Put in at Hyde Rd. boat launch and paddled down to Chamna. I felt like the bike was strapped pretty well to the packraft. The handlebar was kind of getting in my way of paddling on the left side but I managed. It was a pretty easy paddle and it was just me and all of the waterfowl out on the river. The Benton City gauge was reading about 2100cfs which is about 400cfs lower than average. I thought about going another 2mi around Chamna on the river, but I decided it would be more fun to take-out at Chamna and ride the singletrack back.
Note: I've now packrafted pretty much the full Tapteal water trail from Benton City except the final few miles in the delta area. The full ~25-30mi route would be a nice bike-raft due to the big U-shape of the river (minimal biking and maximum paddling). I've also bike-rafted from Cle-Elum to Thorp. It would also be fun to do the Yakima canyon south of E-burg, but I'd have to do some research on sections between Rosa dam and Prosser.
