After the session on Thursday, I had a pain in my ankle which I thought was just because I had been bitten as I had a red lump!
It was really sore yesterday evening especially going up and down stairs and as soon as I warmed up this morning, It felt really painful and as soon as I started doing strides it just got worse :( I really didn't want to make it even worse so I decided to come home and not do the session.
I asked Alex to have a prod and poke it he said that it isn't do with the bite but from when I slightly rolled over on it on the session. He said I haven't done anything serious and he said to not do a session today but it should be fine to do an easy run tomorrow!
I was really looking forward to doing it this morning, but I had a bit of a panic with it and I think it was probably the most sensible decision to just give it a miss today.. :s
Really disappointed with this race but I have leant a number of lessons -
1. I need to make sure I am having adequate sleep! I felt exhausted in the days leading up to the race and on the day of too.
2. I didn't ease down properly and shouldn't have run so hard the day before, especially going up hills.
3. I need to make sure I am adequately fuelled to run the race - I ate lunch at 1 and had a cereal bar and a banana at 5 but I didn't end up racing until 9 and I felt hungry as I started.
4. Being on my feet all day inevitably had an affect and I need to learn to just rest on the day of the race!
Although I am upset with my time, it was very much a learning experience for me :)
This was meant to be a easy run but I ran with Ben who decided to sprint up New Zealand Road..! I felt really strong running but exhausted as soon as I finished and then all day at work :(
