Orienteering 1:20:00 [2]

Did some training with Aleck and my dad (and Rusty) on the Rockhouse map. 10c but I did 9 since the dog was with me and he had to smash through the blueberries the whole time. He did so very diligently. I nailed all the controls so that was nice but I was kinda fast walking the whole time, again mostly since I took the dog with me and I didn't want to lose him. Rusty did a great job and had a blast getting soaked in the woods. I only carried him near the top of RH since the bluerberries were thicccc (with 4 C's). He seemed to appreciate the 5min break since he was definitely working hard. The fog was kinda freaky. For a lot of the course I could only see whiteness and silhouette of the hills/boulders/trees around me which made it a bit trickier. Still a good time and nice temperature.

Horse Killer RR day. First lap (13 miles) were super chiller. Us C's were kinda just hanging with the D's so they would do all the work...oops. 2nd lap we got to ride up Horse Killer Hill which was about a mile of steepness. We broke away a bit before the climb and then I just tried to hang on. I was with the front 4 for almost the whole thing but they got over the last steep section (avg 13%) a bit faster than I did so I had to descend solo. That was the end of that. Did the last 5 miles solo which is sooo much better than my usual 20 miles solo. I could see Anna's pack the whole time and was closing the gap a bit but I couldn't catch them.

Everyone got kinda caught up in a car accident that happened right in the middle of the course. We had to slow down and some men's racers were neutralized through the area (not me). I passed and was worried a racer got hit since it was pretty bad but it was just 2 cars and lots of emergency personnel.

Finished 5th again which I am happy with. Ate a lot more breakfast this morning (apple sauce is good, plain bread with pb is good and gu is good) so I think that helped me. I had a waffle and gu before the start and a gu at 12 miles. One more race weekend. My goal is to stick with the squad as long as I can.
