Cycling 2:05:00 [3] 32.0 mi (15.4 mph)

The usual weekend ride in Maryland. We got out late which was probably not smart but sleep is also good. Saw a couple of large groups riding back into the city on our way out but we saw pretty much no one after that. Too hot.

Rode over by Great Falls at the C&O Canal and the woods in that area looked super nice. Might need to go on a little hike around there some time.

Overall, legs felt absolutely dead. Nothing in them. I would have liked to do more but it was hot and very sunny and my legs needed a break.

Core/Hips/Strength 7:00 [3]

Will and I were gonna set up some orienteering training for this weekend but we'll be going to Suffern instead. Hang out with the parents before they head to Finland and keep Papa occupied. Today he got hit by a deer...yes a deer...while riding his bike (35mph downhill) and broke his collar bone. Luckily nothing else is injured too badly. We will do an active but not-too-active activity with him and go hike around Harriman.

Our friend from school is also staying at our house for a bit and, Rusty is great company and all, but I think she's kinda bored since she can't drive anywhere or anything. I can help teach her how to swim!

Cycling race 56:00 [5] 18.0 mi (19.3 mph)

Seagull Circuit race. Pretty much a crit. It was hot. Warming up I put ice everywhere down my kit, not sure if it even helped. Got dropped after 2 laps, as per usual which is very annoying and made me kinda mad. So I rode the rest of the race "solo" and when I say "solo" I mean I pulled a 14 year old girl along with me who then out sprinted me at the end because she pulled for *maybe* .5 miles the entire race which had a nice stretch with a solid headwind I had to fight. Not even salty about it though. After 20 min I was thinking of stopping but I didn't. Average hr was 191, max 204. I'm just annoyed with the whole thing. It was very sunny and hot, 98 degrees but probably felt like 105. At least we got to go to the YMCA for free afterwards and swim. The outdoor pool was very warm but it still felt nice.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3] 15.0 mi (15.0 mph)

So we were supposed to ride at 5:30 am but we "accidently slept through" that alarm... I guess the heat is good conditioning for tomorrow's race. I'm racing at 1:20pm when it's supposed to be 101 degrees. So yes. I'm worried. Today was hot and only 97 and a good amount was shady.

On the way home we almost ruined some surprise marriage proposal pictures but managed to veer around the photographer. Bike path is not the best place to propose to someone but it was still cute. Also saw a nice porta-potty floating down the Potomac. If I do remember correctly that river was quite busy with swimmer during the July 4th weekend... Ew. Don't swim in the Potomac.

Running 46:00 [3] 5.5 mi (8:22 / mi)

Run around work again. This time we went down to East Potomac Park and did a little loop around to the Jefferson Memorial and back up the Mall. Hot and humid even by 6:30.

Running 40:00 [3] 4.93 mi (8:07 / mi)

Run around work with my friend from school, Evan Garvey. His sister lives in SW, right down the street from my office so we met up half way and ran on the Mall. Nice to catch up with him and talk and run with someone! Got bagels and coffee afterwards for breakfast. Had to get up at 5:30 which is a bit earlier than usual but that's ok, we'll do the same thing tomorrow.

Cycling (Cross) 1:12:00 [3] 15.5 mi (12.9 mph)

Ride to Hanes Point on the cross machines. Did a lap and some drills and then rode back home. Hot, humid and harder to ride than when on a road bike.
