Orienteering 1:44:00 [4] *** 10.0 km (10:24 / km)
shoes: Salomon Spikecross 3

Went out to do the red course at Ward Pound Ridge. It felt like a long time since I had done anything outdoors, never mind orienteering. I had this idea. At work, I sometimes listen to music and it seems to help me get into a flow while avoiding minor distractions. So I wanted to try it for orienteering. Of course, I was somewhat short-sighted and didn't think about the fact that I would have no signal on my phone, so it didn't work out because I didn't have any music downloaded.

However, to my surprise, I ended up talking to myself through the whole course, and it seemed to help. I focused on doing three things for each leg: find the catching feature first, next get the attackpoint, then the route. I then further broke the route into pieces if it was a long one. These are no doubt things I should have been working on for a long time, but later is better than never I suppose. I also tried working on pacing, something I have been learning from road running. Not pace counting, but trying to set and stay at a pace that I can maintain for the full length of the course.

It might seem strange to some if they go by me at an NR event and I am jabbering away, but I think I am going to continue to try it if it helps.

Anyway, no route because my GPS watch finally bit the dust and I havn't replaced it yet, unless someone knows how to go from Nike Run Club app to AP.
