Running race (IMRA Brockagh Burst) 33:41 [3] 6.04 km (5:35 / km) +266m 4:34 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4

Snow arrived just before reaching peak, fantastic up there, challenging conditions and while all around me were slipping and falling the icebugs held firm on the very slippy grassy descent.

Took it quite easy with the orienteering to follow and warmed up in the race.
12 PM

Running warm up/down 6:36 [2] 0.72 km (9:12 / km) +27m 7:44 / km
shoes: OROC

Orienteering race (Oakwood Brown) 1:35:37 [3] 11.07 km (8:38 / km) +435m 7:13 / km
shoes: OROC

Put myself down as NC for this as I'm familiar with the place. Took a route choice to 4 that took me way off the map and only for a stretch of wind blow trees it wasn't a bad route. It allowed my feet and hands to warmup!
Quite a bit of snow on top and I took it very carefully. Gus passed me in the open and I reckon the goats would be impressed with his progress.

Enjoyed this, beautiful map and course, well done guys.
Went a little stronger with contact lens and these worked well and it was great to have the bit of wood at 9 & 10 to inform me that this is as far as I can push the lens magnification for now. My vision of the ground in the wood was a little compromised. The only spots I was really straining to read the map was 13, 17 and 26. 13 I was wondering was the fence at control uncrossable, 17 I went clockwise round building as I thought the green on the shorter route was impassable and 26 I thought there was a passage through direct.

Being a 30min+ run I took it handy at start so to not get fatigued early on. couple this with time losses at 4 of the first 6 I was racing either Conall or Seamus for the latter 2/3rds

1, went left, tried to ease myself into map.
2 left but no foot path seen through the grass and the path and bridge I crossed to arrive at building were not marked. So back out and around. 20 secs.
3 as with many others stayed up and only once I arrived at entrance to building did I see control below. I led traffic in which I had to deal with on my exit. 35 secs
4 kept left.
5 my worst, Firstly went right, didn't find descriptions on map and didn't interpret the ones on my wrist correctly so ended up on wrong side of fence and as the control was in the hedge I didn't see it from that side so hunted for control before going back and around. 40 secs.
6 with the issues at 5, I wasn't set up well for 6 and was efficient going through buildings 10 secs.

So the best part of 2 minutes dropped and Conall who started 2 minutes after was on my tail.

9, slightly off and Conall passed me. Struggled with vision in the wood and for 11 exited 10 via building and upped the pace to try hang on to Conall.
13, not the best line through car park and then dropped time at control wondering wether the fence it was on was uncrossable. Seamus was coming in as I exited to 14.
14 went right and correctly read control site and saw 15 on way.
16 Seamus passed me to punch before. Conall still ahead of both of us.
17 Seamus anticlockwise through what I thought was uncrossable vegetation. Conall ahead and myself clockwise. Nearly crashed into both as I entered passageway.
19 Kept left of building . Conall stopped here to read map which allowed me to pass. Seamus about 10 secs ahead took same route.
20 I went left, Seamus right. I had quickest split and closed the gap.
21, That gain was immediately cancelled by me taking wrong line exiting 20. Conall was starting to drop back a little, probably fatigue after doing time trial in morning.
22. Wow, this needed thought but had a bit of time before committing left or right. Seamus went right and I went left. He was marginally quicker but he is a quicker runner...didn't see him again until I was coming into 23
24 Seamus back via 22, I went via building but hadn't noticed the bit of dog leg on that route so effectively lost touch with Seamus.
26 Thought there was a direct way in so didn't take as direct a route as I could have.
