Running warm up/down 14:39 [2] 1.92 km (7:38 / km) +4m 7:34 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4

Prefer a much longer warmup, but didn't have time and was wet.

Orienteering race (NI Sprint) 17:07 [4] 3.12 km (5:30 / km) +22m 5:19 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4

Got all the technical controls wrong. You'd think by chance I'd get one right. Then slow in wood with untaped ankles and rabbit holes, then took leisurely detour trying to locate crossing point. A poor sprint!

Just seen results. I mispunched!! Went to wrong tree for no. 2
2 successive events to mispunch, can only remember mispunching once before.

Running warm up/down 30:57 [2] 3.06 km (10:07 / km) +4m 10:03 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4

In between the 2 races. Quite wet and struggled to keep warm. Some of the time was in the car.

Orienteering race (NI Middle ) 32:37 [4] 5.67 km (5:45 / km) +43m 5:33 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4

Much better then the sprint. Got steely glances from Olivia after I hopped fence and she went via gap, but surely everyone knows that in the morning fences are uncrossable and in the afternoon they are crossable. not clean as I dropped 2+ minutes at 12 with not reading contours and hunted a bit for gap to 4

Note

Laptop for IMRA run on Carrick Mountain.
Finished abruptly to go on search and rescue for missing runner. By chance she was found by demarker and I drove in to collect them. It was dark by the time we got off the mountain.

NCT next week, the 10k on the mountain won't have helped!

IOC Summary. May not get round to more detail
Fantastic effort by WATO. A very enjoyable weekend.

I was in a panic Fri morn with onset of cold. I certainly have it but mildly in throat which gradually got worse through weekend. Don't think it impacted me on first 3 days. I think it did a little today, but there was plenty other issues.

A solid sprint. Leaked time throughout (>30secs) but ran hard and had comfortable course win. Planning made good use of limited area. Almost no route choice, but some challenging control positions. Some dodgy control descriptions and lack of line/circle breaking was an issue and I sympathise for those on M21E with that indistinct Olive area. I detoured to WIT on way home today and Zoe and myself had a look. It was unfair.

A solid middle. enjoyed it more than I was expecting and got on quite well with the map. tried to ignore the black and go by contour only. Couldn't read contour detail for rocky pit with the the black and lost a little time. Was leading course at the top, but I lost a lot of time on the descents and was making minors errors during 2nd half. 2nd M45 2 minutes down. Don't think I could have done course 2 mins faster.

Mactire Award was a bit of a shock

Satisfactory long distance. A chance to challenge Billenicus with his British win the previous day in his legs, but wasn't really close. With no woodland I put in stronger contact lens and left magnifier in bag. Mistake...as I could not read contour detail to my 2. Felt like at least a minute dropped. Previous map at 1:7500 was really easy to read with weaker contacts. Hesitant on long leg over ridge and quite slow on descent and then misread map without magnifier and left wall too early to 11. Must have been another minute dropped. Fine for rest.

Relay, I mispunched...no 1 Obviously did not read code and explained why I had to climb so much for 2. then no. 3, veg change was so horribly wrong and I never got my focus after that. (I looked at control site with Zoe afterwards) I was quite pissed off. Plenty further issues with controls and map. The event was bordering on being a shambles which is such a shame after the great middle and long days.
