Note

NI Sprint & Middle
While I enjoyed the 2 courses and am thankful for all the planning and organising, if I didn't have other business to do, which happened to be in Newcastle, I think I may have been sorry I travelled.
11 AM

Running warm up/down 13:20 [2] 2.28 km (5:51 / km) +62m 5:09 / km

Orienteering race (NI Middle Champs) 32:28 [5] 4.28 km (7:35 / km) +123m 6:38 / km

Control pick course. Enjoyed the run. I think the course would have benefited from a long leg dropping about 3 of the controls.
Small time loses at
1 got caught in loose wire 10 paces from start kite. Had to unravel myself and I then placed it in a gorse bush.
6 Aimed for top of re-entrant as per description but was down the re-entrant so would have been quicker coming from below.
11 went to low for crossing point.
12 Ended up too high. Didn't loose as much as many, about 30 seconds
14 Didn't quite read contours correctly.
16 Overshot dropping down an unmarked re-entrant, tracked back crossing the re-entrant I thought I originally came down. About 20 seconds
18 No idea why I should have been 41 seconds quicker than anyone else.
19 In wrong place, Actually went wrong to begin with but once I got myself back on track I ignored control as very obvious and obviously not mine. Eventually decided that it was actually within 60 metres of where I though it should be, went to check and the code was correct!
20 19 in wrong place put me off for this one.

I enjoyed the course despite the issues. I was reasonably tidy and ran reasonably well. Marshes were tough to get through.

Running warm up/down 11:58 [2] 1.06 km (11:15 / km) +13m 10:35 / km
shoes: Icebug Acceleritas4

Went to check 19 to confirm it was wrong. 40 metres off on hill to NW.

Legs had fatigue from previous day and didn't really get into this till 2nd half. Simple course, kept looking for decisions but none were needed and that was distracting me! Plenty of crossing busy roads, so some luck required and I may have faired better than some.

My main issue, and it's one that repeatedly gets me, is locating the start triangle. Spent at least 10 seconds standing at start hunting for it. Doesn't seem fair. Tivon really suffers with this, probably contributed by being colour-blind and only sighted in one eye. Really when compared to that, I've no reason to grumble!

Putting out Rogaine controls. A lot of hiking in roughish terrain and stopping logging Bumble bees!
Very tired by end.
