This was so much fun. Fast and furious, very like a sprint. I was thrown in with the older lads, with leg1, which was nice as I didn't have to wait in the cold for a later run.

Charlie led out. I stayed in touch. We had the same first 5. For 6 I saw him punch a control at a root stock. I saw what I thought was a rootstock to the west under the circle on my map. I went west, but no clearing or control and then I found the path. I went back to the control and it was mine. 40 seconds lost and Charlie was gone. On reflection the rootstock was too small to be mapped.

Others had caught up with me, so I was in a crowd again. I was running quicker then most others, so I was pulling away when I dropped 20 seconds with bad line out of 11 and bounced off re-entrant, so did a banana route to 12.
Back in the crowd again. 13 concerned me, but my line was good and after checking an unmarked holly bush, I saw the kite ahead at a larger bush.

I had Charlie in my sights again at 14, but unfortunately I must have had my map upside down and checking control descriptions and I hunted for kite before the track, rather than just after the track. This was another 30 seconds dropped.

My SIAC didn't work at the finish until I dibbed it, so 16 seconds got added to my time. Came in 2nd, less than a minute behind Charlie.

The team didn't quite hang on to a finish ahead of Wales. They pipped us on final leg.
