Running 1:10:00 [3]

From the Rugby Club camping, Stockghyll Force, Wansfell, Wansfell Pike, then the footpath south to the Jenkin’s Crag path. Tom F, Jack, Arnav, Tom S, B.

Worked up Wansfell trying to stick with Arnav(?), then fartlek the rest of the way. Beautiful view up Langdale at one point.

Good weekend apart from the racing itself. Keen to start intervals. Will try a session this week, get West Midland Relays out of the way then get on it.

Running 20:00 [3]

Various with Huw, Saville and around the field. Forgot to bring my shoes so had to buy some when I got there. I’ve had my eye on some X-Talon 210s for a while but felt they were too expensive so had planned to wait for them to be on offer some time.

Now I was forced into buying new shoes I thought there was no point getting another pair of 212s so stumped up the extra cash. Fantastic decision, they are amazing, so glad I forgot my shoes, would pay even more for them.

Fell Race 1:21:30 [3]

Nervous/excited before the start, remembered the dibber a tad last minute.

Not sure what position we went out in but a bit behind Wharfdale, Carnethy and what I thought was Pete/Jack but now not so sure.

1 - Up the stream, Wharfdale went left so they were out of it, lost some meters on the couple in front. Could see lots of teams on the trod as we were entering.

2 - Up the trod and popped out near the tarn, which was lower than I thought we were. Aim was to pretty much contour to under Lord Crag but at one point I was scared we’d gone too far so we just turned east and hit the fence half-way between the crossing points. Saw EUOC leaving as we were approaching. Punched with Carnethy.

3 - Across the plateau then contoured to the path. Just behind Helm and Calder Valley.

4 - Went for a too diagonal line. Calder were a bit above us, and we saw some teams running along ridge as we crested (probably Dark Peak and HBT) but they disappeared in the mist. Followed the red flags across to the spur and then descended, with Carnethy for a bit but they went too far right. Up and over to the checkpoint. Huw struggling by this point.

4-F - Easy but the red line was wrong after 5 which annoyed me as an orienteer!

Sad that we weren’t a faster pair as I’m sure we could have got more teams. Also lost time on Leg 1 with shoes falling apart. Would have liked to have been top-5/6 on the day so a bit disappointed really. A medal will be the aim next year though!

Running 40:00 [3]

Round a West Midland Relay course map memory. Followed by some strides to try and open the lungs as they have not been worked in a while

Running (3 x Wrekin) 1:20:00 [3] +600m

Main track, west side, back side. Did some drills before and strides after. Bare visibility on the last one which made pushing difficult.
