Trying to make up for the lack of both quality and volume this week. 50 KM in the past 24 hours and I managed to drop to race pace for three near the end today. Better than nothing.

Left calf is sore all the time but it can be pushed. Just not clear how far or for how long. Hope now is that I can train on it for the next two weeks and then focus on healing it up while still running some decent quality workouts.

Tough, long road run. Had been reading about fast finish long runs which I have done before and this other more savage workout where you run half your distance very easy and then alternate kms between your marathon pace and half marathon pace. Would have been 17 km of that today. No fucking way. But I was thinking about it. Did try to speed up toward the end. No real dice there but managed not to slow down a whole lot. Super for the win?

When I got home a revolution began in my calves, side butt and it band. Felt like they were about to simultaneously seize up and it wasn't going to be pretty. I've never felt anything quite like it before. Got in the bath for the first time in this house (pushing 8 years and one bathroom renovation) and that seemed to settle things down.

Warm up.

It was a WWHD? type of plan. 10 km, race pace or maybe a touch faster. Got 8, almost. Probably shoulda pushed harder but my head wasn't in it. Thought I'd be better off to go for a second run of some quality tomorrow.

It's hard not to be pessimistic about my chances in Chicago. Not my first rodeo. I should be feeling pretty snappy by now and sure as hell ought to be able to run a 45 minute ten k without even noticing it. It's possible I'm sporting too much super. Tipping over 180 and feeling strong, but perhaps too beefcake-y.

Running 15:42 [3] 3.01 km (5:13 / km) +6m 5:09 / km

Cool down of disappointment, amrap.

Got switched out of the Thing I Can't Do to something else. No shame in that, in case you were wondering.
