HOC Winter Evening event at Habberley Valley. The reason I wanted to go to this was because it was the last chance I had to practice night orienteering before the British night champs (as I'm not going to the BOK WNL on the 20 feb due to BUCS).

The evening was almost a complete disaster when i found my head torch battery hadn't charged but luckily a kind man had a spare.

The area was actually good preparation for the British Nights (lots of rock features and tricky path network but I hadn't read the scale. I thought initially it was 1:10000. After getting to things too quickly i adjusted thinking it was 1:7500 but only when writing this have I found it was actually 1:5000. There was me thinking the map was dreadful but actually it was my fault for not checking.

Decided to only go for a short easy run since this morning I still had DOMS in my calf after the sports massage last night. Did loops of Battledown as this made it hillier than usual.

Decided to finally retire my Wave Rider 17s and start using the wave rider 18s that have been in my cupboard for a month (i've stuck to this model since the 14s) and they were great.

I'm thinking of leaving the harriers and joining another club called Almost Athletes. I'm finding the harriers too elitist and there's no social scene at all. At some sessions with this other club there maybe no-one my pace but i think i will enjoy running with them more.

Cycling (Indoor) 35:00 [3]

Upgraded the session from 8 x 2:00 [2:00] to 10 x 2:00 [1:30]. I wish I was able to know what resistance i was at as I often spend most of the first rep trying to gauge whether it was the same as last time.

Forgot I had booked a second appointment at the physio until today. Planned to do 5km ending at the physio and 5km run home. Went via Battledown to set a more respectable CR on Hewlett hill.

Running 12:25 [2] 2.2 km (5:39 / km) +10m 5:31 / km
ahr:124 max:132 shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 17

Physio gave me a much needed sports massage and more ultrasound. Outside of my calf was supertight. Calf felt weird afterwards so just shuffled home. Should have done more beforehand.

Recovery run via dry cleaners again. Felt I needed a thermal as Imogen was giving it the full beans when i left but was far too hot when she had calmed down.

This is going to be an easy week, with a steady run tomorrow instead of intervals so I don't end up injuring myself again like two weeks ago.

BOK Level C at Brierley.

Running down to Short Brown as I only wanted to be running for around 60 mins with the aim of keeping going at all times but not pushing.

Didn't feel particularly fast (as i haven't had a good weeks training) or fit (due to yesterdays illness). Nav wasn't that great but i was trying to visualise the controls more. Just happy to be running painfree. Would have benefited by wearing dobs. Could have saved at least 5 mins if I was clean:
3. Got distracted by BOK junior who I knew was on my course (thinking they were right, which they weren't) and made a parallel path error.
4. Slight miss not following bearing
11. Hesitant, didn't have a plan
12. Lost time attempting to scale a 4ft vertical bank. Managed to get up in the end but in hindsight i would have detoured.
15. Wasn't a fan of the vague green mapping both on the approach and in the control circle
19. Got ahead of myself and instead of contouring round the large valley, i dived in and was then very confused.

Note
(sick)

Picked up a stomach bug similar to the one that kept me from going to the Alc-o last year. Probably something I ate at lunch yesterday.

Turned out ngoc league was canceled due to waterlogged parking field so at least i didn't miss out at that. When I finally felt better I went to watch EUHH at BUCS XC. Here's a very muddy calummc loving life.BUCS XC
