I found this day more fun than the others. It felt like there was less people out there so i was doing my own nav, not running particularly fast but making less mistakes. Confidence boost when I caught Nick Jarvis at 9 and then Mark Burley at 10. Had I not made a mistake at 15 i think i could have got away but the train reformed and immediately derailed on 16. Refocussed and clawed my way back after i lost touch. Still over 8 mins wasted.

Time losses:
#3 0:20 - Hesitant. Relocated off the point on the reentrant 60m early
#4 3:10 - Good bearing but i wasn't where i thought i was when i took it. Ended up way too high and had to relocate.
#10 1:25 - Got put off by Nick Jarvis as i though he had found it. We were both way too low. Annoying as i had done fine for the rest of the leg.
#15 1:00 - Story of the week. No attackpoint, was way too high without a proper plan. Mistook a ride running NW with a North line so ignored it instead of running down it,
#16 2:05 - Thought i only had to run down 1 steep bank so when i had done that i was confused not to find the control. Took a while to relocate.
#24 0:10 Dropped down too early, not really naving, assuming we would have the same control as the girls.

Struggled with this terrain, never got going at all. Misses on 2, 3 and 4 made me annoyed and pressurised. Huge misses on 10 and 11 made me bored. Big miss on 17 meant i just jogged in. Over 10 mins wasted again.

Time losses:
#2 0:22 - Line was off, crossing the fence further right than i thought. Never clocked i ran over the ruined wall.
#3 2:20 - Was going fine but when i saw a control in a ditch and it wasn't mine i panicked and was unable to locate myself. Eventually figured i hadn't gone far enough
#4 0:25 - Big banana following good bearing
#10 2:20 - A lot of people made errors here. Was hunting on the side of the hill rather than in the reentrant.
#11 1:38 - SO shocked that I hit the path junction rather than the path bend it took me ages just to orientate the map. A unmapped fence added to my confusion.
#12 0:25 - Big banana caused my following tracks
#17 3:25 - No real attackpoint. Couldn't work out the forest on the ground and what was mapped. Should have stopped but just proceeded and ran up the wrong reentrant and took a while to relocate.

Struggled physically on the horrible heather / rocky pit combination on #1 and #2 but importantly i was clean. Small miss on 4 but huge error on 6 took all my energy so was unable to really push for the last loop. Less mistakes today but still almost 12 mins wasted.

Time losses:
#4 1:00 - Same mistake i've been making all week. Didn't have a plan or attackpoint, just assumed i would see it. Was way too high
#6 8:45 - 630m contouring leg. Unfortunately, when i thought i was contouring, i was dropping 1m every 8.4m (11.9%). Relocated of a set of crags 75m below where i wanted to be.
#11 0:25 - Should have taken a bearing off the path junction rather than just cutting across and getting distracted by the nearer boulder field.
#17 1:45 - Was too high running to a clump of rocks that wasn't mapped. Relocated off the path and crags.

Ran off the map twice...on a sprint...good one! Almost 7 mins wasted

Time losses:
#3 2:17 - Plan was to turn right at the 2nd junction. I didn't see the first one though so at the second one i just kept on running and then got confused and had to relocate
#9 3:30 - Had already ran past it before i started hunting. Should have relocated quicker
#10 1:10 - Missed the path i wanted again so in theory did a parallel error.

Scottish 6 Days Orienteering Day 3 @ Birsemore Hill - M21E 5.7km

Routegadget

After only just making my start, I proceeded to be a prat from the off, wasting 6:30 which meant 3 starters behind me had been and gone before i found 1. Settled myself down with only small misses until another big one at 11 where 3 more runners were running in a train in the other direction. Lost the plot from here with a miss at 13 and a large error on 16. Mark had caught up 20 mins by 24 confirmed this was my worst day so far. Over 15 mins of errors

Time losses:
#1 6:30 - Plan was to get to the wall, figure out where i was, then find the control. Unfortunately when i crossed the wall i thought i was too high but i was actually really close to the wall corner which was lower than the control. Wasted a lot of time relocating eventually having to run back the the wall.
#2 0:15 - Slightly off line
#3 0:30 - Point was hidden in the bracken so a bit of hesitation when i initially didn't see it as i ran down the spur
#8 0:20 - Can't follow my bearing so had to run up the veg boundary when i didn't hit it bang on
#9 0:10 - Hesitation in the circle
#11 1:40 - Off-line again. Too high. Wasn't able to relocate off a nearby control so got confused. Eventually figured i'd gone too far
#13 1:45 - Ran straight past it hidden by the bracken. Wasn't really concentrating, assuming i would see it. Relocated of the crag and boulder 70m south.
#16 3:15 - Didn't want to do excessive climb so plan was to contour round. When i saw the black and yellow taped crag I thought i was too low but i was dead on line. After doing a large circle i saw Andrew nearing the control,
#24 0:35 - Not paying attention to the fine detail. Was looking on the side of the hill
#25 0:15 - Not reading map. thought there was a large path on the north side of the fence

Started well, bad miss on 7, ran with Mark. Mark makes mistake I take over. I make bad mistake Mark doesn't follow. Angry, bored, cruise to finish.

Worse than yesterday. Almost 11 mins of errors

Time losses:
#3 0:33 - A bit too high, was just assuming i would see it as i contoured across
#7 3:00 - Plan was to run over the spur then contour but i didn't pay any attention as to what feature i was looking for. I got very hesitant and panicked that i had gone badly wrong even though i was in the circle. Mark who started 3 min behind now caught me.
#12 1:08 - Was just following Mark. Neither of us saw the control in the reentrant than we had run down for 150m so had to relocate off the control on the boulder 60m too far.
#15 5:00 - Lots wrong with this. Bad bearing, no plan, followed tracks assuming they were on line. Eventually relocated 200m away.
#19 0:30 - Slightly off line after contouring instead of climbing.
#21 0:45 - Again slightly off line. Should have run to the end of the fence then dropped down as was my original plan.
