NGOC Street-o at Hatherley, Cheltenham

Chose to go to this rather than the Bredon Bash Hill race with one eye on the weekend. Taking it at a cruise pace but still not completely clean. Time lost partly by not spotting SI stations on lamp post rather than obvious O kites.

Didn't need to do a long run this week so went along to this with the aim of getting my legs ticking over. Very hot so was a 200m rep session which was ideal.

Swimming (Open Water) 30:37 [2]

1650m

Knees and quads a bit sore after the weekend. Wasn't sure what to do today but when I saw tri club members were heading to the lake I thought I'd join them for an easy swim. Probably didn't need a wet suit as water temperature was 24°C but everyone was wearing one.

Elapsed time: 4:22:52

Saunders MM training with Mark Day 2. Relaxed morning carrying on our route and soon found the evidence of 100s of pairs of x-talons on the ground from the day before. Felt hotter today as was unbelievably calm.

Down the tramway then a hike up Dale Head. Ticked off Hindscath - cos why not? - then up and down Robinson to Newlands Pass. We had made good time so chose the longer route back, up Ard Crags before traversing to Sail, Crag Hill and Hopegill Head. Lastly ran along the ridge to Whiteside and down the steep slope than was the 1st climb for the runners yesterday.

Hats off to them, such a brutal race. Straight to the lake for a swim to cool off then back to Loweswater.

Successful practice and looking forward to next weekend with lighter rucksacks.

Elapsed time: 4:21:51

Saunders MM training with Mark Day 1. I knew I would have a free weekend after NGOC didn't want to enter a Harvester team so suggested the idea to Mark as weather looked ideal. He planned the route which be the reverse of the Buttermere Horseshoe British Champs fell race happening on the same day.

Logged as Running but as is the case with MMs it is more like a fast walk. Rucksack was heavier than it would be next weekend as we took roll mats.

Started from Loweswater about an hour after the race had started and headed up Mellbreak direct. Down the other side then a slog up to Red Pike where we first saw the leaders then a brisk jog up to High Stile. Very much a walk for the next hour cheering people on up High Crag, some having a more jolly time than others. Finally we headed over Hay Stacks where we camped.
