Walking 1:40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

Erin and I walked from East River Road near the Franklin bridge to the West Bank of the U of M and back with dinner along the way. It was probably one of the best Minnesota days of the year. Glad to spend some time out there with a leisurely recovery walk. My knees were sore from the race yesterday and I was zombie-like when we finally wrapped up back at her place around 7. In bed by 9 pm, slept and slept and slept some more. Between the race yesterday and being out till 1 AM, I was TIRED.

Running race (Trail ) 2:16:09 [4] 13.1 mi (10:24 / mi)

Surly Trail Loppet Half Marathon. Race started late due to packet pick up line moving terribly slow. Ran into Steve Bennet just as I was joining the never ending line and chatting with him and his buddy helped the time pass. Although I was supposed to start in the 2nd wave, I actually started in the 3rd due to the packet pick up delay. It's such a fun course but today was tough. Much of it is on single track so getting stuck behind people is costly. Then again, it's a break. I know it hurt me a bit though because whenever the trail opened up, I spent that time passing others. Still, by mile 10 I didn't want to go anymore, badly wanted to be done and started walking hills. A nice gal in front of me during the final miles offered to let me pass and I declined. Just hanging on to her was helpful and in the end I passed her and a handful more in the final mile. Not an impressive performance by any stretch but it's becoming a common feeling to be frustrated by getting stuck behind people. Patty, Steve and I hung out for the full post-race festivities, many laughs and tired. Because I started in the wrong wave, my initial result tacked on 10 minutes to my time! Luckily they fixed it. I like racing but it'd be nice to break out of my maintenance mode and actually improve a bit.

Running race (Trail) 39:32 [4] 4.34 mi (9:07 / mi)

Saloman Autumn Trail Race Series #2. The humidity and the fact that I'm racing a half marathon trail run had me pretty calm and with low expectations for this race. The calm worked in my favor as I improved my time from last week by about a minute and a half! Crusher was there doling out race numbers and Patty was the leader for her age group: both of those items were exciting! I think she remains in the lead for her age group and will don the leader jersey again in two weeks for race #3. Rusty Taco and a good drawing had us stick around for a bit. Looking forward to the next one in two weeks.
