Cycling race (MetrO bike Ellenbrook) 55:16 [3] 10.66 km (5:11 / km) +43m 5:05 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 26 ex Wally

Hot workout in the far flung suburbia of Ellenbrook. Score event so we could start when ready which should have made it easier but I still managed to get flummoxed and missed my first control. Settled down after that with a clockwise plan going fairly smoothly until #28 where I exited east and did a complete block of unnecessary distance just to get back to the control and work out the correct way out. Picked off the next few and then couldn't find #14 - actually couldn't work out where I was and gave up. Chugged back to the finish, picking up a few more, including the first one that I missed. Good fun but could have been much better.

Cycling (MetrO control collecting) 45:00 [3] 11.12 km (4:03 / km)

Went out to get the 6 most westerly controls, since I hadn't got out there during the event. Nice going with all the parkland and paths, and found all the controls without any problems!

Cycling (FROGs ride) 2:21:42 [2] 28.02 km (5:03 / km) +29m 5:02 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 26 ex Wally

A new route from Bryan taking us from Tomato Lake to Kent St weir via Leach, Tonkin, Roe and the river; then back through Cannington and Welshpool back streets. First time across the shiny new bridge on the Roe Hwy PSP over Orrong / Welshpool - another couple of dots joined up on the bike path network. Warm morning and the easterly was cranking, so early progress was slow but after turning down the Roe Hwy, it was a pleasant ride.

Cycling hills (Life Cycle Kalamunda Ct) 2:01:19 [3] 13.51 km (8:59 / km) +238m 8:15 / km

Up early for a Life Cycle offroad practice ride. My first go at MTBing on tricky tracks - managed to avoid them last year at the MTBO champs - that's the benefit of good maps! Set out with the slower group along green and blue routes from the Camel Farm to the Dell, up Mt Gungin and back down to the start. A quick squirt around a couple of single tracks early on (Flaccid Ashback and Gridlock, I think) was fun. Then near the Dell, turned up the Munda Biddi, Drago and Mother-in-Law to Gungin - some of that got very hard - fortunately I had to stop frequently to let other riders through and could catch my breath. After Gungin, down Goldilocks (scary) and Muffin Tops - started to get a bit confident as it flattened out and promptly had a stack. Tried face-planting a rocky bit of track but got away with no more than a dirty face - very lucky. Trundled back to the Farm and off to Kalamunda for an extended coffee session - it seems that mountain biking chicks can talk even more than the FROGs girls :-)
