Orienteering race (Garvey Park Nav Dash) 1:02:11 [2] 4.86 km (12:48 / km)
shoes: Merrell Continuum

That rounded out an untidy weekend of Orienteering. Was going OK until #4 and then, judging by the trace, I went off about 30 deg too far to the right - backed out the track and found myself back the start, tried again and missed again to the right and hit the track behind - fortunately at the bridge so I had a definite point to aim from. Finally got it. The rest passed without any gross errors and, on several occasions, helped by others exiting from the bush areas. Lovely day for a stroll around the park :-)

Cycling race (MTBO Banyowla) 2:47:40 [3] 16.33 km (10:16 / km) +516m 8:52 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

Banyowla certainly lived up to its reputation. Set out on the Medium course after a lot of phaffing about - first 2 controls were downhill but scary enough that I walked a lot of it, then uphill to a couple of pretty untidy efforts to get #3 and 4, then down Canning Mills Rd to my first taste of old quarries and then 2 in the burbs and one in a park. Then it got interesting trying to find #9 in a series of old quarries. Scoured the area with several others but no joy, even tho I had a good fix on a Long course control nearby. Eventually gave up as the afternoon was disappearing and plodded up Turner Road to the finish. Disappointing to get a DNF but got the workout I needed. Thanks to TrishTash for her hard yakka on what has to be the most difficult setting challenge for MTBO in WA.

Cycling (Karragullen Kapers) 2:22:09 [3] 28.26 km (5:02 / km) +391m 4:42 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

With the truck in for a service, Carinyah wasn't reachable so I was back to putzing around east of Karragullen. Bit more distance and more climb than previously - gave the big cogs at the back a real workout and managed to ride up everything, however slowly. The modest rain over the last little while has been enough to settle the dust and, on the slopes, scour away the loose stuff so the riding was a bit easier from that point of view.
