Cycling (FROGs ride out) 1:03:06 [2] 18.5 km (3:25 / km) +60m 3:21 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

Cruisy ride from Haig Park to Bayview with a hefty NEaster behind us - made a note to fuel up as it was going to be much harder going back. Great weather - spring already?

Cycling (FROGs ride back) 54:37 [2] 16.07 km (3:24 / km) +45m 3:21 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

As expected, bit of a slog back into the wind along the south side - marginally more sheltered and a couple of kms shorter, all of which helped.

Cycling (MTBO Mids tape check) 5:05:08 [2] 24.97 km (12:13 / km) +462m 11:11 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

Started the day with Boltboi and the chainsaw, clearing the track to the finish.
Set out after tapes, relocated one by prior arrangement and then failed to find the next three. Gave up and went north where, fortuitously, I met Boltboi doing some track gardening - checked one more I couldn't find nearby together. Got some advice on the missing three at the start and carried on north. Got the rest OK until the very last one on a long stretch of featureless track. Back and forth a couple of times, gave up on looking, measured it out from the nearest mapped feature (400m!) and put out a new tape.
Loaded my trace into Ocad and thence into PP and I nailed it! The rest of the trace looks like a spaghetti bowl in places. And it showed that I missed one control completely - bugger!

Cycling race (MTBO Darlington) 1:00:46 [2] 9.76 km (6:14 / km) +187m 5:41 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

Decided a bit of discretion was warranted and opted for the short course. When I saw the Medium course map afterwards, I was very pleased I did. The short was a relatively gentle run up and down the Heritage Trail and some bush blocks to the south. Made a few mistakes early on until I woke up that Rob had positioned the controls off the "main" tracks wherever possible, so then I started looking around more. Biggest error was going to #5 - didn't see the cross on the connecting track and turned down the boundary track to the west. Got close enough to see the sign about dieback and "please stay out" before it all connected. All up, a very enjoyable course and I managed a second - very rare.

Cycling (Control collection) 49:29 [2] 5.3 km (9:20 / km) +80m 8:41 / km
shoes: Giant Anthem 2 XL 2019

Enjoyed it enough to go for another squirt up the Heritage Trail and collect the adjacent controls.
