Lawrence Loop, start temp: 68F. Started with under shirt, covered arms and legs. Took off extra stuff at Sports Pavilion parking lot before going on. Nice to have the route 100% paved including crossing south Iowa St. More walkers and strollers and trikes out so slowed down accordingly.

running/walking warm up/down (walking/running) 1:00:00 [1] 2.6 mi (23:05 / mi)
slept:8.0 shoes: Patagonia EVERLong

before race, dynamic stretching, buzz saw planks, walk, run, acceleration glides; after run, some static stretching and tried to warm up for the 5K after an hour break after the 10K, decided I didn't want to risk pulling something.

running/walking race 49:35 [4] 10.0 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Patagonia EVERLong

8 am 10K -
Kansas Senior Games at Felker Park and Shununga Trail in Topeka. Saw there were 6 guys signed up for M65-69. Need to finish in the top 4 to qualify for nationals. Only recognized one name, Walt Oyler, so needed to race to be sure not to miss out on placing. Only 3 other guys in front of me, all faster, so ran alone most of the way. I heard Oyler was close behind me as the volunteers at the Burlingame Rd bridge cheered him on going out. Didn't hear him again until half a mile to go - heavy breathing. He made his move on the straightway to the finish in the last 50m. When he got just a step ahead of me, I recognized it was Oyler and spritned. Finally one a sprint. That got me 1st in M65 The winner way ahead was younger; he looked old enough to be M65. Really glad I backed out of doing the 5K at 10 am.

Rain in early morning so I waited and didn't get out until 10 am. Out to Burroughs Trail, Haskell, bike path along new K10 to Broken Arrow Park. The bike path is now all repaired - 100% rideable. Then home via Burroughs Trail, Burcham Park and Shaw Park. Extra 2 block to get exactly 15 miles.

Stretched and iced afterwards.

biking (road bike) 46:52 [2] 10.2 mi (13.1 mph)
slept:7.5 shoes: Specialize Sport MTB

Easy ride to Martin Park and to Queens Road to check progress of new bike path. Couldn't go north to farmer's turnpike (road construction) so went back home by way of Morning Dove and Eagle Pass.
Achilles tendons still tender and I should hold off running until Wed.
