Orienteering race 19:18 [3] 3.4 km (5:41 / km)

Sprint-O at Birchgrove. Sore right calf from yesterday so went for an easy jog. Pretty clean nav except for some minor hesitations at Ballast Pt and took an indirect eastern route to 2. 19.18 was over 4mins from the leaders Andrew B and Andy H.

Orienteering race 3:08:01 [5] 29.9 km (6:17 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 13

Minigaine starting at Mosman. Hilly harbourside course with lots grwat views throughout - especially at the 100pt controls. Had difficulty planning how to link in the middle controls (67,44,32,45,63) and deciding whether to go for the lot .

Went out too fast in the first hour and paid for it in the last hour. Began with the streets to the NW and then down to Cremorne Pt. Like many others, lost time at 22. I didn't carry water and was looking forward to a first drink at Bradleys Head near 21 but couldn't access the water due to a wedding. Had to wait until Clifton Gardens for a drink - but this was too late and started dehyrating.

Saw Andy between 86 and 62 - and we were going at a similar speed (struggling!)... this gave me some hope but the problem was I still had to do the hilly Balmoral section still while he was probably on his way back to the finish. Experienced really bad leg cramps for the last 45mins and had to walk/shuffle most of Balmoral. Lost several minutes looking for 69 which seemed to be further up than on the map - coming from 100.

Legs were in a world of pain at the finish. I've never expereinced cramping and muscle spasms like this before - all over both legs - calves, hams and quads. Water & salt tablets after really helped ease the pain. On the brightside, my ankle held up well and I'm starting to gain more confidence and speed offroad.

Got them all except 67 (didin't see it on my map fold!) and 46 (ran out of time) in 3hrs 8mins 1sec. (2710). Richard and Glenn got them all 2900 in 2.48 and 2.58. Andy all in 3.03.

My route:
42, 41, 81, 23, 43, 30, 22, 34, 83, 108, 65, 68, 47, 66, 82, 26, 107, 84, 24, 106, 64, 21, 105, 85, 35, 45, 32, 44, 63, 88, 104, 103, 102, 25, 60, 61, 48, 86, 62,87, 33, 20, 101, 100, 69, 40, 80, 31.

Played with Stan again. A bit more intense than yesterday. Shots feel stronger than last year. Probably from the regular swimming training.

Squash 1:30:00 [2]

Stan's visiting from HK for a few days so had a light hit. Just played length, so no forward lunging. Was ok moving in straight lines, but no power when pivoting and chaning direction especially off the right side. I'll sit out the first few rounds of comp to be safe with the ankle and to give me time to get squash fit.

Orienteering race 47:30 [3] 8.0 km (5:56 / km)

SSS 22 at Beacon Hill. Great course! Probably the most challenging SSS I've done. Had to walk most of the rough tracks again. Probably wouldn't have got too much more had I ran it all because navigating the tracks and green parts was difficult enough walking! Scored 390, 100pts behind the leaders Michael, Patrik 490 and Andy 480.
