Nominal 6.66 km. (My 'spikes' include little bits of hesitation but no turning in circles.) Easy 25 minutes of substantial mistakes. Headed a bit astray 2-3 (a couple minutes), then somewhat distracted knowing that Janet would see my poor skill. Fairly lost en route to 3 (a couple minutes), but found it without walking in circles (better look at my track tho'). Good job on 4 and 5. I don't know WHAT I did on my way to 6. Crossed a major trail without realizing it. Did I forget where I was earlier and get confused about which hill I was on? I went almost to 7 before I decided I'd overshot, since the cliffs and boulders and contours weren't aligning with where I wanted them to be (15-20-minute error). Tentatively relocated a couple times, then I think I stumbled on 6 on my way back to the trail for a solid relocation. 7 was good. 8 I overshot (3 minutes?). <1 minute lost locating 9. Really had fun running southeast thru the woods to the trail then booking it for a while. Totally blew 11. I failed to relocate when I crossed trails, and headed into the woods way north of 11 (>5 minutes). Overall, I felt very good running. (Hooray!) What did I learn? 1. when paces exceed expectation by 50%, consider that I have overshot. 2. When I've probably overshot AND there I major features on the land that aren't on the map, stop and relocate. 3. Don't be distracted by people who will see my poor skill; they already know. 4. Be extra cautious on 1 AND 2. 5. Try being consistent about thumbing last known location.

A loop of trails through American Legion State Forest. Very slippery (I think it's the shoes). Lots of rocks and roots, and a few nice pine needly sections. We walked all the uphills. I was tuckered out by the time we got to the far end. Fantastic view over Farmington River from the Jessie Gerard trail. Thunder rumbling as we trundled along the ridge. Still dreaming of actually feeling good running...

(These are Dan's heartbeats. I hung up my HRM chest strap somewhere.....?) Biked from Granville MA to Hartland Pond via East Hartland. Oh, after a detour in the car to Southwick for a visit to Mrs Murphy's donuts, so I was in donut coma. Nice ride. It must have been >95% humidity, but not excessively hot. Nice smooth pavement.
