O race race 14:35 [5] 2.23 km (6:32 / km) +23m 6:13 / km

What a difference a day makes! Australian Sprint Champs at Curtin Uni campus. Started so fast I had to stop at the start triangle to try and see where the triangle was on the map. Missed control 1 but fortunately found the very close control 6 location as I saw another competitor punch it and just checked the control number list. Used this to my advantage later as I was able to easily spike the control at speed. Kept up the pace all the way to control 8 where I lost a few seconds by visiting the nearby control 12 (again gave me an advantage later in the course). Then slightly overran 10 as the control was tucked in a stairway. Nailed the rest at good speed and produced some fastest splits here to run into 2nd place as the pre race favourite mis punched. My best ever result at an Australian Champs.
So perhaps race tactics of saving the legs worked after all.

O race race 47:35 [4] 4.5 km (10:34 / km) +160m 8:59 / km

Going so so up to control 9 in the Australian Middle Champs. First 7 controls were fast and furious. Off on a couple but after the event I noticed one error was because the circle was not broken in the right place. It hid the fact that a small creek/gully was joined to the watercourse end I was looking for. But lost the plot around control 10 which was a boulder in a striped green area that was thicker than I expected. Must have circled the control at least three times and lost at least 7 minutes. Course winner said he found it when he heard the SI unit beep! Not much motivation after this lost time so saved my legs for another day! Not sure this tactic works now.

Important announcement - Geoff Lawford said he would not run M60 in Australia next year even tho he is eligible. I have at least one other witness.

walking 1 [3]
(rest day)

Watched the finish of the WA Long champs from a tent out of the rain. Heavy showers started just when my class mates started. A few rain fronts passed over the area interspersed with drizzle. Windy conditions in the assembly area as it was on an exposed area at the edge of the map. Must say spectating at an O event is as thrilling as watching a one sided AFL grand final - pretty boring!

walking 1:30:00 [3]

Walk with Liz from Ocean Gardens Retirement home to Reibold hill and back via a few trails. Great weather - so warm over here. Views of the Indian Ocean from the top of the hill.

Yoga 1:15:00 [3]

Fitted in yoga session amongst finalising packing prior to going to the airport in the late arvo for the flight to Perth for the Australian O Champs carnival. First race is Sunday. The Australian Middle distance. I am resting my legs on Saturday so not doing the WA Champs much to the surprise of some of my rivals. Will this tactic work or backfire?

ride with Peter 1:41:34 [3] 40.34 km (2:31 / km) +294m 2:26 / km

Usual ride around LBG but with a slight variation at the end to try and avoid a swooping magpie - successful detour. Pace was pretty fast today despite a head wind on parts of the way home.

Terrain loop 20:00 [4]

A few terrain loops at medium pace plus a slow recovery jog along some fire trails and single track. Temperature about 20C - felt hot!
