O race 21:02 [3] 3.14 km (6:42 / km) +21m 6:29 / km

Leg 1 of Sprint the South West. Felt a bit off after my low speed crash at the relays. Falling on a log and hitting it with your chest makes heavy breathing a bit painfull when you are trying to sprint. Dropped a few seconds at control 2 and lost about 20 second at control 9 when I took a while to choose which way to exit the control as I had the map orientated the wrong way. Nice area with some interesting elevated and uncrossable walkways which involved a few switchbacks to get to and exit from one control. Garmin time and distance reported above.

O race 20:19 [3] 3.12 km (6:31 / km) +43m 6:06 / km

Leg 2 of STSW. Felt much better this arvo and ran better toward the end of the course. Tricky area with a lot of OOB areas and buildings on a curved slope. Dropped 20 seconds on control 5 when I ran past it and about another 20 on the way to control 13 when I had not looked ahead enough and ran into a OOB boundary and had to retreat to find a pathway thru the area.

O race 46:46 [4] 5.77 km (8:06 / km) +160m 7:07 / km

Australian relays in WA. Repeat from last year with a third place in M55s. This year with Hugh Moore and David Poland. Ran first leg and apart from control 1 had a smooth run. Misread the control description and was looking for the wrong feature! Nice area and a bit more challenging than the long area the day before. Fair few fences tho reduced the navigation.

O race race 56:55 [4] 6.7 km (8:30 / km) +196m 7:25 / km

Australian long champs in WA. Finished 7th after dropping about 1 minute at each of controls 1 and 2. Course was fairly fast and furious so very hard to make up for lost time elsewhere as navigation from control 3 was not as challenging. The time spread between the third placegetter and me was only about 2-3 minutes. Given a number of others lost time at control 1 makes me think that the start triangle may not have been in the right place, or else the slope we dropped onto was stretched a bit to fit on the features. Somewhat surprised about my lack of speed later in the course - very hard to drop runners once a train formed probably reflecting the high visibility of the latter parts of the course. Course was advertised as 5.7 km and 125 m of climb. Above is my garmin measurements. Better focus on the relays now.

walking 2:00:00 [3] 10.2 km (11:46 / km) +73m 11:21 / km

Quick walk to Glendalough Station from Mt Hawthorn before training to Freo for a walk around parts of the Fremantle Orienteering Discovery map. Good fun trying to match the pictures to the map locations. Fitted in a latte before training back to City West Station before another quick walk back to Mt Hawthorn. The quick walks reflects us trying to keep up to Liz's sister on her electric scooter which moved pretty fast. Visited a nice map shop in Freo - must be one of the few shops like this that are left. Thanks to Richard and Nicole whose inspiration was to produce a o discovery map of Freo.

road cycling 2:00:00 [3] 35.0 km (3:26 / km) +200m 3:20 / km

Nice bike ride with Richard and Nicole and Liz along various bike paths to the east of Perth City and back. Lots of bike commuters heading to the city in the morning which was good to see. Spotted the odd dolphin in the Swan River which attracted a few locals. Pleasant coffee stop and nice tailwind home.
