O race 22:17 [3] 2.3 km (9:41 / km) +40m 8:55 / km

Might have scraped into the A final after a less than stellar Sprint Qualifier at WMOC. Errors on legs 3,13 and 16. Got distracted by another runner which resulted in a poor route choice to 13. Great technical area and a big field. Might have picked the right heat as some others with faster times in their heats might have missed the cut. Scope to improve tomorrow. Just saw the splits which says I lost 4.02 !! Mistake free run would have put me 4 th!!!!

road cycling 3:00:00 [3] 46.0 km (3:55 / km) +30m 3:54 / km

Napier to Puketapu pub and back. Headwind most of the way there which built up an appetite. Coffee stop in Taradale on the way out. Cool day but still sunny patches. Got up to a top speed of 38 km /hr. Peloton of 6. Decided to make tomorrow a rest day before driving back to Auckland on Saturday.

road cycling 4:00:00 [3] 62.0 km (3:52 / km) +30m 3:52 / km

Rode the landscape trail from Napier to Clifton and back on a great riding day weather wise. Hired bikes are good and they threw in a pannier for each of us. Peloton of 6. Quite a few drafting type gates to go thru which are designed to keep other vehicles of the trails but slows down the ride as you need to get off at each gate. Nice coffee stop on the way and had a cut lunch sitting on the gravel beach at Clifton. Post riding we visited the Ocean Spa for recovery. Nice day.

O race 43:11 [3] 3.47 km (12:27 / km) +191m 9:46 / km

Oceania Middle distance at the Rockery which lived up to its name. Karst terrain and quite steep and very slippery and muddy slopes in places. Good run with only a loss of 3 minutes on leg 4 to 5. Tried to avoid climb on this leg but was unsure where I was after contouring around a steep and I mean steep hill. Enjoyed the run. Finished about 16th in a big field again. Another win over Richard the III. Need a mental rest after all these runs. Course nominal distance was 2.4 kms and 105 m of climb.
