Park run 25:54 [3] 5.0 km (5:11 / km) +40m 4:59 / km
ahr:149 max:156

Burley Griffen park run no 2 for me. Faster than last time (27.17 previous) as much nicer running conditions today and toughened up by Sprint Canberra last weekend. Went out faster than last time which meant second half was a tougher grind - used downhill bits to reduce average HR - benefit of new garmin is that you can run and monitor heart rate at the same time - this also means avoiding constantly looking at the race time as well - a good thing at this stage of my running base.

MTB 58:48 [3] 16.0 km (3:41 / km) +250m 3:25 / km
ahr:93 max:134

Ride to arboretum and back with Liz on a nice warm still day. Rest of peloton piked for various (valid) reasons. Short hit out that only raised the HR occasionally, despite the climb.

walking 57:22 [3] 5.21 km (11:01 / km) +79m 10:14 / km
ahr:81 max:99 weight:75.8kg

Walk around nearby hill with Liz - some stop start bits when Liz raided the blackberry bushes. Nice walking conditions. 383 calories used apparently (I did not eat blackberries).

ride with Peter 1:35:00 [3] 39.0 km (2:26 / km) +350m 2:20 / km
ahr:121 max:152

Peleton of 4 on a cool and windy morning for the usual LBG hit-out. Had 3 layers on the chest - forgot the arm warmers which would have been handy for the start of the ride. Won the hill sprint easily - no challengers today. Later acted as a domestique to help Paul fight the headwinds when he fell behind. Needed banana bread (toasted) before the ride home from Kingston foreshore. Pace faster on the way home despite the headwind on parts. Top recorded speed was 50.2 kms/hr. 902 calories used according to garmin - but not counting the banana bread.

Run 13:25 [3] 2.56 km (5:14 / km) +28m 4:58 / km

Deeks Cross country track and first run without a walk for a breather. Felt stronger after the Canberra Sprints. Joined by KB which was nice and meant I started out a bit slower. About 18C so nice running temperature.

Monday Jan 29 #

MTB 30:27 [3] 8.47 km (3:36 / km) +100m 3:24 / km

Short hit out on single tracks at Stromlo - rain over night made them a bit sticky in places. Nice to move legs other than running.

Strength and conditioning 30:00 [3]

Mainly stretching post 5 sprint O runs over the past 4 days. Using the roller again after a long break - still feels painful on the lower legs and ITBs.

O race 23:53 [3] 3.26 km (7:20 / km) +20m 7:06 / km

Race 5 and final event of Sprint Canberra at ANU South - bit of an advantage here for me as I was the controller for the ACT Sprint champs 2 years ago held on parts of this map. Nevertheless it was a tough navigational challenge - well set courses with tricky areas which led you to dead ends if not careful - poor route choice between 9 and 10 and 10 to 11 but rest were good. Pleased body held up and finished strong and probably one of my better performances of the race series. SI Air available at event but I did not use it - neither did most of my main competitors - but it is the way to go for these events - just need to spend $105 for another stick. Will hire for Melbourne Sprints and Tassie.
