MTB 27:00 [3] 5.6 km (4:49 / km) +60m 4:35 / km

Sprint MTBO event - enjoyable - but missed seeing one control and rode 7 to 9 - which actually went very close to 8. Was running about 4th otherwise in a competitive field of M60. Being familiar with the area helps. Also 1:7500 map scale means it was readable.

MTB 1:30:00 [3] 13.0 km (6:55 / km) +263m 6:17 / km

Middle distance champs at Sparrow - course was too long, too complex and in areas that were too rough - even on some of the single tracks - I did muck up 4 to 5 when I suddenly found myself back at 3! But even before I broke my chain I had been out there for a an hour and a lot of the course to go. Of course I broke the chain at about the furthest part of the map away from the finish - a long walk pushing the bike up a big hill which got me about 60 per cent of the way back - then could at least roll back. Bike kindly fixed by another rider who brings the kitchen sink to events - he had a spare joining link which was where the chain broke.

Easy ride to the arboretum and back in anticipation of the MTBO races over the weekend. Hopefully O-ing and grilla will have smoothed out the tracks at the events for which they are course setters so the surfaces are like the single tracks at the arboretum.

Run 41:18 [3] 6.5 km (6:21 / km) +172m 5:37 / km

Cadence training group - 2 km warm up - 4 loops of down and up amphitheatre then around the crescent run between the bollards - then 6 by 200 metre sprints on a gradually climbing gravel road - then a 2 km warm down. Lovely morning weatherwise.

Peloton of 4 to 5 to 6 at various parts of the LBG circuit. Nice riding weather - won the hill sprint by beating a 74 year old man! Pleasant coffee stop at 38 Expresso where we solved most of the world's problems.
