Day 1 of KBIII. First time on the The Common Rylstone map. Great little area - enough vegetation to reduce visibility and nice rock and contours. Overshot 1 but there was a road just past it so relocated easily. Only other wobble was the map flip at 7 where I assumed; incorrectly, that all the others going my way would have the same map flip control - not true there were 2 different controls. I flipped the map early so was reading the next leg before I realised I could not find my control. Lost about 30 seconds. Bit more jogging but still a lot of fast walking - finding the terrain hard to get use to.

Peloton of 3 joined by another 3 for coffee at the half way spot - Early Edition. Cloudy, cool, slight fog - lovely riding day in CBR. Weather bit of a difference to Burleigh Heads where we were on Monday to pick up the new VAN. Felt good riding tho after spending 2 days driving home. Now to pack for KBIII.

Mount Stromlo Observatory - the Herman Wehner Tribute Event - a Long Sprint - Herman would have been 100 this week if he had not passed away earlier this year (cake was put on for finishers). He had lived and worked at the Observatory for quite a long while. Great map by his son Martin and also good course setting by him. Tricky navigating in the bush for the first part of the course then urban type sprinting around the buildings and old telescopes. Nearly went 10 to 12 but pulled up at a broken fence and realised I had to make a slight direction change. There were two loops on the course. Ran a bit more today especially to try and keep ahead of Grant - I was the first starter on the longer course and therefore also the first finisher (but a long way off the fastest). Great event and only 5 minutes drive from home.
