Jog to the start of SOL 1 at Fairy Knowe and Doon Hill.

SOL 1 at Fairy Knowe and Doon Hill.
Still not 100% over my cold but gave it my best shot and was moving reasonably well, but a few mistakes -
Too low on No 1 in spite of an elephant trail in to it from the path.
3 - 4 Was going to run round the road but changed my mind at the last minute and went straight, although on the minor path through the first block of forest. Should have gone round and probably lost 1 minute or so?
Lost 2 1/2 minutes on No 9. Went to the road and then to the rides but couldn't make sense of them and ended up too far north.
Missed No 11. Too far east along with another few competitors. Bailed out and headed to the fence to the north-east, relocated and went back and got it fine. Another 2 1/2 minutes lost.
All okay to the end except I was slightly too far east of No 21. My split for the leg doesn't show any problems but I should have been faster.
Well beaten by Jethro again and some very speedy youngsters! Impressed.

Excellent course in a good forest with a great map - and all on a beautiful autumn day. Just what the sport's about!

In awe of my athletic club mate Callum Hawkins for a superb run at the Great Scottish Run. 60 mins 24 secs for a half marathon!!!!

Visited Victoria Parkrun to consolidate Mrs P's 3rd place in the Women's League which finishes next week. Cold (7C) and foggy morning. Didn't feel as bad as I thought but took it fairly steady at the start and kept a reasonable pace going. Ran 18mins 56secs which was a bit slower than normal but not too bad considering.

As I'm not on Moansport I thought I'd circulate a wee story from yesterday -

One of the Sports Development Officer from the local Council arranged to take all the P6's from three local schools (including Mrs P's) orienteering in the local park yesterday. 150 kids turned up and were put in groups of 10 with one very badly printed black and white OS map per group. The start wasn't marked but a few numbers were written on the map in various locations (no circles) to indicated where the 'clues' were and flags located at each of the locations. No instructions were given and the kids told to run round the park looking for the clues. They all headed off and eventually arrived back. The kids were handed back to the teachers (including a fuming Mrs P) with no de-brief. The kids were taken back to the school afterwards. Mrs P asked her class if they'd enjoyed their experience and the unanimous response was a resounding 'No'. Given what they experienced I'm not surprised.
Oh well I guess it just sums up my theory that most PE teachers and Sports Development Officers are in post to try and put kids off sports for life. The kids who are keen on sports all join local clubs and are supported by their parents. Rant over. I have the map if anyone would like to see what was on offer!

Easy run from work at lunchtime. Thought my legs would be bouncy and raring to go, but they were really sore, stiff and heavy. Oh joy!

Quite interesting how my cold is working it's way round the office. I've now infected 5 out of 17!

Off work today so spent the day in front of the TV. Even the voice in my head telling me to get out for a run couldn't make me.
To make matters worse I've just been told I'm running in our 1st Vets Team at the West District XC Champs on Saturday 8 October. Hopefully I'll be well by then!
