Compass Sport Trophy Final, Tankersley.

Yet another disappointing run. How many more of these can I cope with before I start to dislike this sport again?

The cunning plan was to run round the many paths and get as close to the controls as possible, dive in to them and get out again fast. I knew I would be caught by Quentin and Jethro at some stage of the race so I planned to hang on to them for as long as possible. This worked to some extent but overall failed!

Found it very difficult to get any speed up as there were so many paths and it was difficult to see them on the ground, especially the junctions.

Missed No 1! Standing within 2m of the flag and didn't see it tucked down behind the lip of ground at the top of the re-entrant. Did a loop round the hill and came back to it from the west and saw the flag. 1 minute lost.

Took the wrong path to No 2. 30 secs lost.

Missed No 4 and ended up on the wrong thicket. 30secs lost.

Ended up on the wrong path going to No 6. Was doubling back when I met Quentin who was about to make the same mistake as I did. Followed him to No 6. 1 minute lost. Not a great start as I was hoping he wouldn't catch me so soon! He did start 4mins behind me!!!!!

Quentin ran away from me over the next few controls. I couldn't believe how fast he was able to run and navigate through the paths. I caught him at the road crossing between 11 and 12.

Again he shot off to 13 but missed 14 and I got in front only to miss 15 and let him back in front. The splits don't show much time lost but it must have been about 30secs. Again he shot off leaving me trailing.

He got to the road crossing at 17 / 18 in time to get across without much of a hold-up. However when I arrived a few seconds later I had to wait for the traffic to clear and he was long gone.

Made a mess of 21 - 22 when I ended up on the wrong path and had to take the long way round when I realised where I was. Another minute lost.

Small mistakes at 24, 25 and 26 added another minute of mistakes.

Made a mess of 27 when I stopped just short of the control, doubled back then went back and found the control just a few metres beyond there I'd stopped. 1 minute lost.

Got really badly mixed up with the paths between 27 and 28 and hadn't a clue where I was. Headed right and ended up on the main path well off to the right. Much cursing and swearing and legged it to the control only to overshoot it. 1min 30secs lost.

A very bad run with lots of mistakes and way off the pace. Managed to get 94 points for CLYDE and we finished 2nd overall. The only good thing was seeing how fast Quentin can orienteer in a complex area like that. Lots to think about.

Linwood Parkrun (at last). Now the Victoria Parkrun Women's League has finished with Mrs P securing 3rd place, we've now moved to our local run. Not sure if she enjoyed it so we might be back at Victoria soon.

Anyhoo, yet another disappointing run with nothing in the tank.

Hill session with the athletic club on the Brookfield Hill. Session was 12 x 1min 20secs up then jog back down.
