BUCS Relay leg 1.
Weird one, normally the bucs relay is full of excitement but this was weirdly subdued. Perhaps because of the strange atmosphere or maybe because I've just got a lot on other than orienteering at the moment, I didn't feel settled or focused at all leading to rushing off to 1 and losing an annoying amount of time. Decided to try and take charge after this and pushed the pace to try and get back to the others who had hit theirs clean. Worked well and was leading the pack until 8 where a poor route and missing my gaffle let most get away. From here I was frustrated and flustered so ran too hard leading to more mistakes. Better after spectator having closed Tim down but handed over feeling annoyed and disappointed with how I ran, too rash and just tactically very poor for 1st leg. Good work by Sam and Nic to get us back to 4th but it could have been so much more.
On a side note, I would have to argue that it was pretty unfair sticking a guest runner on the same gaffles as competitive teams as it definitely influenced the result in my opinion. I know this may just seem petty but when a non-comp runner inadvertently assists those in a race, I don't think this is right.
