Note
(sick)

Very bad night - unable to sleep due to throat.

I have no resistance to viruses whatsoever (witness 6 years' ill in my 30s due to post viral fatigue syndrome) http://www.murrayphil.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/pvfs.ht...

I really need to learn from these experiences and not do things like Spook weekend to such excess.

Tim Tett also got a "bug", but it was minor, he said, & he's shaken it off. He has resistance - I do not.

I need to recognise this and amend my lifestyle & behaviour, as anything else is just plain stupid.

Holiday starts in 3 days' time, and if it's a disaster as the last trip with Steve was (due to illness), I will be utterly gutted.

This w/e I'd planned on doing BOK Saturday series, jogging a parkrun with an ex-colleague hoping to break 23 mins, going to an Xmas party, and running the county Vets' XC champs in Bath tomorrow (£10 entry paid).

I am doing none of the above. 'nuff said.

Note
(sick)

Came down with sore throat overnight from SPOOK w/e clearly.

Day a write off - in bed most of it.

Note

Bloc indoor bouldering, with Liz.

hadn't climbed at all for 8 days - a long gap for me. Buttock/hip a worry.

BUT! felt awesome, light, strong, on form - flew up everything, including flashing a red problem & cruising loads of oranges.

Seemed to be crushing uK 5c moves. No problem.
Also all 3 circuits at 5, 6a, 6a. Cruised.

So all good! :) - a rest as good as a change?

then 15 mins in gym on sit ups & knee / quad strengthen; sauna inc stretching; 30 min massage + Liz on bad (left) leg. All good.

VERY thin - not finishing meals these days due to being full, & being diabetic.

(injured)

Left hip / buttock really sore today - not happy.

Cycled (not too bad, doing that...) to running shop & bought some SKins shorts for my arse. not what I'd gone for, but saw them & bought on a whim. £21.60 inc discount.
4 PM

Running 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km) +85m 4:40 / km
(injured) shoes: Saucony Guide 7

Steady trundle around Victoria park twice. 15 mins, then turned around & reversed.

L hip/ buttock not feeling good at all, sore; wore brand new Skins compression cycling-length "shorts" (very tight & gay), and felt sluggish & bad at running.

Good to be running in trainers tho.

Orienteering race 1:23:56 [5] 7.5 km (11:11 / km) +185m 9:58 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

SYO Wharncliffe, short brown, Level C event,
7.5km 185m
83:56, 6th place, 3rd M50
Very brambly
Hungover & sleep deprived.
Struggled.

Started = felt very hungover. hit no 1 reasonably, and a little hesitant to 2. Then 3 & 4 weren't too bad, tho the brambles near 4 worried me.

horrible, brambly, steep, rocky (wet rocks) - all meaning I was not happy, well out of my comfort zone ,also contact lense in "other" eye so I could read map but judging descents was particularly challenging. Well, anyway, hungover, sleep deprived, so....

took easy path options as much as possible, eg. 7, 9, 11 but sadly didn't see the obvious easy path option to 12, and even worse, folded map up so ended up navigating - through horrendous, suicide-inducing brambles, to no 6 area. Then, despite decent attack point, struggled to find no 12 anyway!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHH. 4 mins lost. And with it the chance to be under 80 mins & in 2nd place.

Proper path running options til the murderous experience of my route to 16 - again, a wood full of brambles. I see there was a more obvious straight line route now, but sadly, any variation from the optimum route today, meant minutes rather than seconds lost due to the BRAMBLES. shouting my frustration in the woods!

Good going out of 16, to 17, then yay! path to 18 but... ouch. WHat now??? Left calf started knotting. Pulled? Stopped on forest road & stretched, then realised I was dying anyway, and struggling to run at my usual pace (THE COURSES WERE MASSIVELY OVERPLANNED - I should have been finishing by this time!!!!). 18-19-20 were right up my street - but my load had been spent now, and I was fed up & wanted it over. Running pace dropped from here on in. Also, my left lower back - as treated by osteo this week - was now really hurting on every stride. OUCH. BOLLOCKS. £43 worth of work undone in one nasty overplanned course.....

No 22 - took safe route - too much, lost 20-30 seconds, but then, due to brain pretty much saying "no more!", I took wrong direction out of 22 & came out stupidly north on forest road. 30-45seconds. ran horribly down nasty hard tracks to finish.

Left the "pleasant" surroundings of the industrial wasteland car park area as soon as Christine had helped me pump up my flattening tyre. Hot bath as soon as I got back - back very sore..... :((

Notty. Sheffield.
5 pints.
Too much, after last night's over-indulgence.

"Drunk". But not as drunk as a lot of others. One elite orienteer in particular, was basically in a coma.

Very good evening, to go with very good Spook dinner last nite.
Has left me feeling far from "fit".

Bed 1am.
