Note
(rest day)

Car and spare room full of wet muddy kit. Clean up day.

Very knackered. But intact - hurrah!

Note

No Achilles pain all day - another Phiggle ? (Phil-niggle).

Dave the drummer has been confirmed by the police to be AWOL in Holland - probably Amsterdam. we're glad he's not dead & is likely stoned, drunk &/or surrounded by hookers & probably eating curry. All of which are preferable to being dead in a ditch somewhere.....

Steady quite low sunday long -ish run. including a couple of stops to stretch & took a map with me, of a Sherwood forest area, to read on the run, including reading it on the long 800m uphill road segment (PB 2:57; 3:26 today - fine,)

Band practice all afternoon. - long day. Really tired.

Orienteering race 52:45 [5] 8.55 km (6:10 / km) +189m 5:33 / km
shoes: Mud Claw 333

BUCS womens' A / Men's B race, Moseley Green, Forest of Dean.

7.4km 265m - Guest run as helper.

I set up & organised the Start, for 3 hours prior to my run, and today was more about that . Amazing help from Megan & Clare, both of whom slotted perfectly into their roles & just churned it out for 2.5 hours. Total stars. Ifor & MarkTwo relieved me by 2pm so I could run - thanks guys!

Excellent course, planned by Scrappy doo, (Paul Gebbett), this is what a great Short Brown looks like!!! plenty of route choice & variety. Totally into the course the whole way round.

Ran with the "fairly good" women - not the "top" ones at the end. This meant I was passing girls a lot, but n several cases, it was an effort to drop them as they are exceedingly young compared to old fart me.

One miss - spectator control - pretty much went to the last control instead - put off by the whooping, hooting, and cheers of the student crowd.. this is not my scene anymore, even though I feel partly responsible for it. (my behaviour 1983-85!).

RH Achilles twinged twice, once cos I really did nearly come a cropper. So no real problem there. Phew!

Hoped to scrape down to 50mins or under, but not feeling 100% after my earlier work on the Start, no warm up, and (mainly) the bogginess of the area in places meant 52:45 it was, and I think one woman beat me - fair do's.

results - My time is right, the others are a minute long, so I am only just scraping in front of 3 & 4, and actually, they can have it, I should be non comp really ( I knew leg one was straight up the big path so ran flat out up it hardly looking at map....- 15 seconds advantage?)

Note
(rest day)

Sorting out BUCS stuff, plus sundry other stuff. RH Achilles still grumbling. Not sure what to do - found a hot spot & sore - on inside.

Race BUCS B race & then see?

It seems soft ground is worse as I slip - roads are firm, so there's less sudden sliding of the tendon. Hope this is another Phil "niggle" .... it's not sore 1st thing in morning when I get out of bed. Just occasional stabs of very uncomfortable pain when I'm walking / going up stairs etc .....

Extremely worried as the drummer of my ex-80s band, The Recovered, Dave, has been missing since Monday. Reading police (he moved) are now involved. It's looking bad. We have no answers.

Running 32:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:00 / mi) +80m 7:32 / mi
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

Easy recovery run from gym up avon gorge, nightingale valley (stopped half way up for 4 mins to chat to a clubmate) - felt fine considering yesterday. Mild cramps in left hamstring. Right Achilles OK. Left calf a bit sore from cramps yesterday. nothing major.

20 mins S&C in gym. including stretches.

Steam room stretch and self-pummel.

Aches & pains seem under control - but still ache, and pain (me). tomorrow - rest day. Hurrah.

Let the UBOC BUCS "debacle" commence..... !!! sigh.

Orienteering (Junior shadowing) 1:45:00 [3] 11.0 km (9:33 / km) +120m 9:03 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Harrier 3

Mark Saunders' BOK / S. Wales / Gloucs Junior's training day, New Beechenhurst.

GOod day - despite wet & cold weather.

I went out 4 times: 1) with Zac Hudd, to hang controls on map memory (20 mins); 2) Guy Owen (age 10!) - control picking no 1 (1.6km) (picked up another miniature orienteer, Rebecca);
3) Guy Owen again, 2km control picking.

finally: Corridor exercise, a mighty 3.6km, with Guy, and the Stagg twins (Bryony, Edith). By this time, we were all wet, cold, hungry, wretched and muddy. Their pace slowed to a crawl. I ran ahead then sweeped back each time. On one 300m leg, I got there 5 minutes before they did. I started getting very cold. I would not desert my trio of small, cold and knackered children, though. It was tough out there! very churned up with rain & wild boar (I saw one).

Finally back at 4:30pm, to some slightly concerned looks from the "adults" - all was fine though. Glad to help & a big thank you to Mark; plus the others - Jackie, Pete Ward, Matt Owen, Mrs Stagg.

Fair to say I was on verge of bonking by the end , as well as being so cold I could not untie my laces. Also starving. (related to bonking). I suffered minor cramps in my left calf and some initial Achilles pain in my right - hoping that's from jumping off bouldering wall yesterday, though, as it eased.

Terrible traffic on way home, I sidestepped it and drove an extra 30 mins rather than sit in car for possibly longer in queues (one accident....). See facebook for my rant. My desire to quit city life is growing and GROWING.... I want out!

Note

Indoor bouldering climbing @ TCA, with Liz. Not been climbing for 2.5 weeks. Climbed OK, considering.

Right forearm still hurting (since mid-December) - a bit annoying, but everything else going fine so can't complain.

Good to get an all over body stretch that automatically comes with these sessions.

Landed on "bad" RH Achilles a couple of times when jumping off / falling; & decided to try not to again .....
