Orienteering race 1:06:40 [5] 9.9 km (6:44 / km) +103m 6:24 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

Caddihoe chase day 2, chasing start, exciting,

M50L, 8km, 160m

Started just behind Duncan Harris (DEE) & Lawrence townley (an M45).

Quickly formed a pack. Struggling tho, not feeling it.

The 3 of us made an error at no 7 let Pete Ward back to us, & he dictated a lot of the later action despite only being able to jog on the paths. He was too strong in terrain, and Duncan was too fast a runner for me.

I stupidly tried to cut thru some gorse and ruined myself, it tore off my control descs holder too, and I was bleeding & wrecked. one runner saw me lying in a pile of gorse bleeding and I just said, "Don't!!!" and he ran off. Finally back on my feet & Paul G was nearly on me, but with a big effort I regained my position in the "leading" pack.

Passed an ailing Kev Fielding (HH; M45, day 1 winner) as we hit the moors again, but knew I was out of my depth, & 3 controls from the end, again I lost the plot and headed into gorse & a fence, and in that moment lost the whole thing, as the others simply disappeared.

Got out of it, to find a dying Kev Fielding standing there saying "what am I doing? where am I?" to which I said, "we've both cocked it up". Needless to say I held him off - but was over a minute down on the winners - Pete & Duncan. Duncan's finish was VERY fast & I would not have matched it, so a win was never gonna happen anyway. Whatever....

Clive went off an hour later and took 12 mins longer than me - at one point he started resurveying the map! What a joke. Level B? OH come on!

2nd again. tired of this.

And again, this wasn't fun. Too tough, too tussocky, no real route choices, and bad mapping. Hmmmm. I am either in the wrong sport, or I avoid WIM/WSX events for a long time....

Results - sigh. Still -look who I "beat" - ha ha. http://www.wimborne-orienteers.org.uk/16%20Caddiho...

Overall results - well I got the result I deserved? http://www.wimborne-orienteers.org.uk/16%20Caddiho...

Running 25:00 [2] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi) +20m 8:10 / mi
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

Jog back to where my control descs holder had been torn off in fight / gorse. Got it back.

returned via last part of course & did leg 23 (?) about 1 minute quicker without the Kev Fielding / me ballsup.

Very tired but a good sociable weekend, and an idyllic campsite, great pub evening, met some new people, and the sun shone.....

Caddihoe Chase day 1

Aggelstone & ?

M50L, 6.8km, 200m

pretty horrible - tussocks, poor map in places, poor control siting, one leg (no 9, 42) taken out as control in v dubious place....

Caught Pete ward 4 mins as he was having a mare. got way ahead of him as he continued to orienteer like a tool, but he ran me down right at the end, at which point I "unleashed hell" and sprinted away from him to win the last 2 legs.

Clive DQed but Richard Cottle of BOK, M50, beat me by about 25 seconds so is SW Long champion. Pretty gutted.

Didn't enjoy this.

Results - Clive's time was incredible, but he failed to check the code properly at no 6. Even so .... http://www.wimborne-orienteers.org.uk/16%20Caddiho...

Note

Really starting to pack up house & lose furniture.

Anyone want anything? tables, pine dressers etc.

not ticking "rest" day.

NB. bruised calf yesterday - a branch sprung up and clouted me on the back whilst off road - hurts a lot. "just" a bruise I expect. Caddihoe is on.

Running 1:03:30 [4] 10.5 km (6:03 / km) +275m 5:21 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Harrier 3

Another Angela training session / hills, Leigh woods. Quite muddy in places.

Straight to bottom of Nightingale valley & straight up - quite hard - 5:03, can go faster. Ange 5:15.

Then rolling run in woods around with some hill efforts, prob no more than 80% effort on most, quite tired.

Finally, a speed 30 second in gorge (She won), and then the grim final Nightingale valley run - after nearly an hour. Death for Ange, I wasnt' feeling too sprightly either. only 5:50!!!

Good session.

(rest day)

Owain cancelled forest O training due to sore knee. Good- as a bit stiff from 5km.

Happy to have a "rest" day packing up house (starting to) & proof reading BOF pages like this one - 5 errors? https://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/index.php?p...

Running race (road race) 18:15 [5] 5.0 km (3:39 / km)
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 6

Aztec fast 5km, winter series, race 1. Hmmmm.

Felt crap today, having spent 3 hours at a demo in town, which doesn't fully explain it. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/100-pairs-of-shoes-ma...

- but woken up feeling like I was getting a bug. This passed.....

Start felt relaxed, took it steady, pattering along fast, but easy. 3:34 at 1km - fine (astonished to find Mark next to me; he'd only two days earlier done the RAB MM!!!! Jeez.......!!!!). 3:35 at 2nd - fine. 3km 3:39 and then the wheels came off.

3:49 4th km (some uphill) - SHIT. that's slower than my 10km pace in June. FFS!

sort of ok for last .99km in 3:37, but dying left right & centre & my two Vet40 nemeses from B&W came past, and I had nothing.

Paul did 18:40 post injury, and Johnny 19:03; but major highlight was Ange's new pB of 21:03! I'm taking some of the credit for that....

2nd vet50, won beer, lick wounds, try to get back on track.

Note
(rest day)

contracts exchanged on my house sale today. Feeling very low about all this, despite making a profit, I didn't buy this house to get rich; it was supposed to be my long term home (I'd hoped for 15 years).

The Clifton flat can be my £££ machine. I need a HOME.

BOK AGM later. canvassing people to help a week saturday - anyone reading this who can help. please get in touch!
