Orienteering race 1:03:11 [5] 11.8 km (5:21 / km) +145m 5:03 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

Knackered from wedding gig til midnight the night before, but this is the life I choose so I am not moaning.

Malvern HOC long course (Brown), Castlemorton Common. 10km, 145m, 24 controls. 1:7500 map threw me! i'd changed my scale back to 1:10000! Steady to no 1 then steady most of the way - 45 secs at no 4 (stuck in fight), hesitant at 6 (45 seconds), and a silly banana at 13 (1 minute) - but terrain easy, map good, controls highly visible (unlike , say.. oooh - GODSHILL?).

Legs felt quite dead & heavy, probably from combination of flat out urban yesterday & the late gig humping gear around til midnight. No bounce, but stuck to it & put in a spurt to overtake Lesley R. (Undy's sis) 2 from the end.

knee survived the gorse - I fell once, but soft ground is fine compared to gravel!

Mark B. had a very impressive run there, I could not really have beaten his time, and I am happy with 2nd place. I won 9 splits too, including a lot later on, showing I'm reasonably fit for the time of year.
63 mins for 10km sounds good, but this area was easy, mostly open, very visible and controls easy to spot. only a couple of really notable hills, too.

need an ANT stick for my garmin as I've lost mine. Ebay?

Orienteering race 41:55 [5] 8.0 km (5:14 / km) +160m 4:46 / km
shoes: Yellow Mud Claw

Woke up with back pain far reduced after needing a lot of painkillers including alcohol to get to sleep the night before. Good!

Injury box therefore unticked.

Malvern urban - Vet course 6.6km, 160m. - really nice event, map, good course, nice & easy mostly, but a fiendish no 9; only one small error, and two good short cut route choices, unusual for me to gain a clever cut through option. (nos 5 & 27)

pleased to get the win today, despite thinking I was 3rd when I left. I pushed very hard on later legs, feeling bouncy & fresh after my "week off". hence I narrowly pipped the Wells BOK blast winner, and took the course.

knee padded up & with a supportive tube on - but it was clear - I MUST NOT FALL. I did not fall. this meant Mr Mincing-style at a couple of steepish bends, but heh.

(injured) (rest day)

Knee - still completely covered in scab. This is 5 days in. Bought protectors patches for w/e. - but they'll be trivial if I fall again - I MUST NOT FALL.

lower back - very sore in morning - saw Osteo. Oh dear. "In a bad way". muscle spasms gone all the way up the spine. told to take it VERY easy this w/e. Yeah right.

£43 today & £43 Monday. Just as well I'm minted. . .

Hmm. I feel a break from sport coming up. In a hole? STOP DIGGING.

I will.

Thursday Oct 20 #

12 PM

Cycling 58:00 [3] 18.2 km (3:11 / km) +190m 3:02 / km

cycle up stockwood cycle track to horse world, then across whitchurch, back to BS3, gym .

20 mins on running machine, up to 16 km/hr (1 minute only!), to test knee - seemed OK; plus some incline. 4.3km covered. plus some stretching.

Then cycle home.

Left buttock / hip / hamstrings very tight & sore from back pop yesterday. Seeing osteo tomorrow. Really hoping I can do both days at Malvern - sod it , I am doing them!

Knee (RH) still a scabbed up mangled mess. bruising & swelling lessening now & I don't need painkillers to sleep anymore.
1 PM

Running 20:00 [3] 4.3 km (4:39 / km) +27m 4:31 / km
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

as detailed in other entry

Knee a mess of scabs & crusty, bloody shite.

I can bend it better tho, but running seems out of the question. It hurts on impact; swollen still.
12 PM

Lifting rucsac with LIDL produce in, from kitchen floor, my lower back "tweaked".

the following 6 hours resulted in increasing pain & soreness all down my left side from back to buttocks to hamstrings. Walking painful. Cycling OK.

Oh great.

I loaded & unloaded 18 car loads of stuff over the past 2 weeks, and now this happens.

"You could not make this shit up".

I'm in the wars, it seems, most of the time & it's time to stop fighting. - it's not going well, so I need to stop STOP.

But of course I just spent £££ on Malvern entries, didn't I.

5 PM

Cycling 1:23:00 [4] 24.6 km (3:22 / km) +285m 3:11 / km

Cycle to & from Southmead hospital, part out of necessity, (rush hour, anyone? ), part to get on bike to do something outdoory, & also, due to bad back today (FFS!), some relief.

Vile. But better than driving, & over 80 mins of exercise, so I guess I take it.

Hospital visit: I cut & paste my FaceBook rant here for anyone interested:

So I finally get to go to a Diabetic clinic to see what is going on with my “atypical” case of “Type “2” “Diabetes”. (Most cases are fat bloaters with poor diets who eat junk & sugary fizz & do not exercise. Sound like the opposite of someone you know? Indeed).

Me to Diabetic specialist doctor: I don’t seem to fit the Type 2 mould.

Her: No, you don’t. (we go through a few things). Her: You are not – not! – a Type 2 diabetic.

Me: Thanks. Didn’t think so. I’ve been waiting nearly 3 years to hear that.

Her: We need to get you tested for Type 1 – it’s a marker in the blood!

Me: I had loads of blood tests done last month, was it in those?

Her: No.

Me: Are you sure?

Her: Yes, they only tested you for regular stuff, and you’re completely well & normal!

Me: But surely, they’d test for it?

Her: Let’s check…. Ah…. Urm…. Yes! You were tested! Oh! It says….. you’re not …. Not Type 1 either.

Me: So what am I?

Her (and another medic in the room)(. We have no idea.

Next thing I know I’m pissing into a pot and sitting there with a needle in my vein again. 4 months til next “specialist” appointment……

Anyone fancy a Mars Bar? I DO.
