Note
(sick) (rest day)

Woke still feeling viral / fluey. Took it easy all day. Gentle walk.

At least left buttocks etc not sore or worse today.

Tim Tett came to stay, arriving late & in need of tea & beer (&wifi password), in that order. Didn't get to bed til midnight! ARGH! :)

Orienteering race 1:02:45 [5] 9.7 km (6:28 / km) +273m 5:40 / km
(sick) shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

NGOC League, Blue, 7.5km, CLeeve Hill, won this in 2014.

Woke feeling grot - viral - WTF? not expecting it. TOo late to change plans, picked up super runner Owain Jones & drove there, feeling grim. Left buttock / hamstring still iffy.

Shit run. Shit. Effing awful.
no 1 - head not "believing" compass, banana - 1 minute I'd say tho Owain was 90 secs faster. No 2- lost immediately; no idea where I was; or what to do. Head "viral" & "spaced out" - not gelling - compass info just "not going in" - relocated & ran straight to control - then won no 3 & no 4. (5 mins lost already).

Shit later - no14 almost missed , lost 2 mins, then near end, looking for re-entrant when the description said spur - just out of it! Couldn't read map either - yellow overprint too light. 2 mins lost.

Last 2 controls were easy & I ran hard, & well, but Owain took huge % chunks out of me. Luckily (!) he ran off the map taking Chris McCartney & one other with him, so he blew it big time. . . .

Pathetic. Both head (ill?) & left buttock / hip / hamstring. Need a break & some strategy & some rehab . Lick wounds. Recover from viral spell.

nb. IMO, this course & the conditions meant that it was a technically far harder Cleeve Hill race than "usual". I was not up to it.

Looking at Owains' splits, when he gets this right, he will be pretty good. Check out the "comedy" split to no 12 ha ha! if he'd done the same time as me to that control, he'd have done 57 mins & won.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3] 6.0 mi (12:30 / mi) +100m 11:53 / mi
shoes: Mud Claw 333

Met with Andy Simpson (undy), at New Beechenhurst, for a good sesh on the Brit M50L O map / course.

did a lot of it backwards, and at steady pace, taking one control each mostly, but also testing route choices - most of which I lost due to a) me being crap in terrain, and b) me being crap at making route choices.

Very good morning's exercise in the woods, then very nice lunch in Cinderford - thanks again undy! :)

left hip / buttocks, hamstrings, still too sore. Need more flexibility?

Running 31:00 [3] 3.8 mi (8:09 / mi) +40m 7:54 / mi
shoes: Saucony Guide 7

Steady morning run in sun from home - first time investigating local area.

Nice fields / old airfield, and lots of grassy verges, all good.

Rather tired still. Legs fine.
2 PM

Note

Indoor bouldering at Bloc climbing.

Very good sesh, the stretch out was massively needed. Used some small holds!

Butchered myself. Which is the whole point. Got up a load of orange problems.

Bashed knee a few times; scabs weeping & tearing off. Oh the joys. (11 days since fall).

Note
(rest day)

Lower back sore from osteo yesterday.

Another rest day needed.

Note
(rest day)

Knackered. A desk job at 9am would have been a struggle today.

Legs sore & heavy; left thigh particularly "dead."

Osteopath - I'm still not right, but I'm not going again after this as it's a lot of £££.
