Packed up on Ruokkee site, left Kesälahti - what a trip.... what a beautiful place, I will never forget it.

Travel back from Finland, via Porvoo, nice day, very long journey, hot in the UK. had to sleep on floor of living room as upstairs resembled a Finnish sauna with out the lake option. So basically bivvying.

R calf still sore, ankle swollen.

Jukola leg 6 for BOK A team, set off about 6:20am i think, after 2 hours sleep.

Very technical from the off. Tried to hold it together, tho slow & punter-like in the terrain - both physically & mentally - but no major howlers in the 1st 12 controls, tho I had to really, really work hard to find them & not cock up. High Dam's disaster still fresh in my mind!

Long road run on way back from the east, having mildly sprained ankle in the tussocks. RH calf was hurting - WTF? Sadly, huge 10 minute whitey at no 15. It happened. Just could not relocate, need a magnifier on a compass now - Thumb? Sad.

Very very tired as approached finish, had nothing left. 104 mins! OMG. I'm too weak & old & crap for this!!! But what an experience. BOK A team came 285th, off grid 377. Result!

Travel to Jukola, and spend 4 hours watching Venla.

Also huge walk in - 4km - carrying a lot of stuff. Tired out!

O training am - 5.6km course, very hot, quite tricky, took it as easy as possible, and walked a lot of the hilly bits.

Lost time at the furthest north i've ever been - no6 - 2 mins?

Fun starting at same time as Paul & Matt W and re-joining them in the last few controls for a bit of a burn up!

"Sprintervals" training, too hot! did 1, 4 & 5, as too pooped. With Jane, Erinna, Tommi, Matt & Paul.

Utterly cooked by the end. I only won the fast one - no 4, which I loved - fast, runnable, rough compass,

Totally overheated on the final & walked. Ouch.

Sauna later , and lake action - fantastic.

Course at Sortolampi

4.6km, started casually in hat & normal t short, intending to walk / shuffle.

Ifor botched no 1, and by no 4 i was going away from him and decided to try to hold him & Mark B off if possible, by good nav & not stopping. half speed, no mistakes

Worked brilliantly, (tho this was easy O really) - even nailing the super bingo no 8, but fluffed 9 badly & then caught Clare D who was walking, but she made my nav look silly on no 11. When i finally caught her, we walked in together talking O.

Possibly fastest, as most people found no 8 ridiculously hard. Veg mapping there was useless - which was why i didn't try to use it, Stoopid! :)

Mozzied to death, Literally.

O evening event, Lusila - Rasti-vihti event

B course, 4.9km, due to being knackered from long flight etc.

enjoyed it, despite going from 2 towards 4, losing 4 mins, but who cares? Relocated quite well, so happy with that. Another error near end but generally a really enjoyabel 1st Finnish event!

Matt W a bit faster as was Clare Dallimore. Pah!
