Note
(injured) (rest day)

Some improvement overnight, but still pain in knee & walking.

More ice. I will go to Finland. I think.

edit: new hefty knee support located. Could be a game changer.

Orienteering race 17:19 [5] 3.19 km (5:26 / km) +55m 5:00 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

SBOC 2x2 fun relay, Cefn Bryn, with Brendan Healy (!) the superfast M40 doctor.

Leg 1 - ignored Clive & Tom D and went the right way to get there first, but only 2rd to no 2 behind a surging Clive & (?) David Seward, but on the notorious "bingo" no 3 (code 233), I went straight and got a good line in, Clive stopped & said it was bingo, & I luckily saw a small re-entrant to the RHS, and went down, quickly finding the top of the flag. Still in the lead; others later could NOT find this control!!!!! including Alice, so I'm told.

Clive charged me down to no 4 where i was just in front, then I basically hung on like grim death until the 2nd to last control where he was a tad high & I was lower; he lost 2 seconds which was enough & I was on him, which meant last control together, and BOOM up the run in I went, taking him out by one second. No prizes for this, and maybe i hurt myself? (see next entry)

Orienteering race 29:00 [4] 4.29 km (6:46 / km) +75m 6:13 / km
(injured) shoes: VJ Integrators

SBOC leg 3 of 2x2 relay, already out of it as Brendan had had to take a medical call during his leg as well as getting lost twice. LOL!

Sadly,as soon as i started, my inner left knee was VERY sore - eh????

Tried to carry on, with little motivation, but pain remained. What the f*** ?

small misses at 2 & 4 (just not concentrating, & Seward guy was around me), then ran sensibly to no 8 & 9 & then it all went completely balls up for the worst control of the year (and injured) - no 9 - went thru marsh then hit a path that did not make any sense to me. If i'd gone south, I'd have been fine, but i lost over 5 minutes, totally lost for a while. V embarrassing as they could see me from the start/finish on top of the hill. Dave Seward allowed himself to be led astray by me (tho Margaret Reynolds didn't & beat us both), and i came in shamefaced. But worse - in pain.

Sadly knee pain did not ease thoughout rest of the day, and am now rather concerned -- this needs to resolve before wednesday morning 6am, as I can't carry heavy bags... to airports.... & Finland... in this state :-(

Orienteering race 32:13 [5] 4.81 km (6:42 / km) +16m 6:35 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

SBOC green course, Oxwich Burrows, 4.3km, and it;s clear strava doesn't cope with contours as no way did i only climb 16m!

Good run, no real errors apart from no 8 (went neither north nor east, but NE - worst of both worlds) & 17/18 (tired/ hot / "panicky" and losing it). Struggling with heat hills & wrecked legs from thursday still. But good!

Ben Mitchell's map was great, apart from unmapped bush at no 12, and his time was insane due to being map maker. Megan's time was awesome, and Clive proved he's still the man. Jim Bailey age 15 has now overtaken me & that's it!

Result - pleased. Despite Clive being totally dominant again.

Note

Sport climbing in Wye valley - woodcroft quarry - all day with Liz, 7 routes, mainly 6a+, great fun, just what I needed as my legs & body generally were shot from giving 100% last night.

BOK dinner. Andy Monro guest speaker. Good evening.

Running race (Fell race) 45:45 [5] 9.77 km (4:41 / km) +276m 4:06 / km
shoes: Innovate Terraclaws

TACH Roberrow Romp, near-10km off road very hilly race. Felt good all day, and rain before the race meant the air was clear.

Felt fine, ran as hard as I could, and like most, had to walk the steep hill up to Beacon Batch, Ran my arse off along the top & down thru the woods but lost a place, despite my fastest 3km of the year here. (3:42, 3:40, 3:48 with some stones underfoot).

7th overall, clubmate Paul Deaton ran really well to be 1st vet50, me 2nd; he went wrong near the end so only beat me by 10 seconds. Should have been about 30 secs (he was with clubmate Andy H who didnt' mess up)

Last year's runner up & 2016 winner, Chris Mcmillan (beaten by Ben Mitchell last year!) , won in an outrageous time of 39:51. Dear me.

My hip seized up afterwards. sigh. Won a bottle of plonk.

Orienteering race (Urban) 28:03 [4] 5.27 km (5:19 / km) +57m 5:03 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

BOK urban, westbury on trym, 4.1km. Green

trundled round the green, taking it pretty easy the whole way, tho felt well rested & quite bouncy at times. Route choice error on no 8 - i went south to avoid dogleg.

not sure why Eddie was also doing green, but his time was quite quick!

Fun evening with very good weather
