Orienteering race 58:58 [5] 9.67 km (6:06 / km) +210m 5:30 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

MLS Army Brown, Sidbury hill (as Caddihoe day 2), 8.2k / 250m

Note: slept on floor last night, as lower back so painful. Back bad this morning but eased, & during race, back was a lot better than at BOK run last night.

Good day/race. no 1 messy- brambles etc; & forgot to tape laces so had to stop twice and triple-re-tie shoe laces.

Control pick in south of area was great - no errors - the tricky site from CChase was reused but from a 90 degree different angle, was a piece of piss.

Oh - EMIT air - 2 events in 4 days - is awesome. loving those flat panels WITH MARKERS HANGING BELOW THEM. one control was given away to me not by a beep, but by seeing a woman's wrist flashing! yes really!

Detailed area on top of hill was awesome, as I'd spent about 20 mins here in September so pretty much recognised the place, and spiked all the controls.

Nearly strangled by a thorny tendril near finish, swore & felt my neck ripping.

Was winning when i left but R Barrett still to come. Major Buchanan had clearly buggered up no 18.

3rd: http://www.baoc.info/sites/default/files/2018/12/0...

I will never beat Richard Barrett - it's simply NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.

Splits. was ahead of RB at last control. RMawer's run in time was not physically possible. Don't understand. . Still left him 4 seconds short though ;-) http://www.baoc.info/sites/default/files/2018/12/0...

Climbing: Indoor bouldering at TCA, first time there for 6 months? - went OK, some hard stuff, climbed OK but still spanked by Liz in the main. (she tries harder stuff) . Core took a bashing. Need better core! Need to find pilates class....

Will i be able to run later? who knows.

Running 1:01:17 [3] 10.45 km (5:52 / km) +149m 5:28 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

BOK training run, Hanham.

Fairly steady pace most of the way. Quite wet underfoot; trainers barely coped.

Lower back really nasty early on; eased a bit. some left calf "pain" - weird.

Probably related to climb earlier.

Tired.

Orienteering race 49:38 [5] 8.29 km (5:59 / km) +173m 5:25 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

SOC Highland Water Blue course, 7.3km / 145m. Very wet - standing water everywhere, but fine, just accepted I would get soaked.

Good run. started as fast as i could, as I seem to be a slow starter in recent "big" races. Route out of 2 not great, 30secs, Matthew P. went south & was quicker. No 6 tricky - lucky not to lose time here, and 7 very tricky - left no. 6 too far north & ended up in wrong block of "wood". Luckily heard road nearby & so lost maybe 45 secs.

Let rip from there, as only a Blue. (no Brown). Did a "Tett" in the rivers - you're gonna get wet, just dive in! Strange ditches & unmapped paths etc near the end, & again lucky not to lose time, but a v good run for me overall & pleased. Certainly felt fresh after an easy week.

Result - what, second place?

Note
(rest day)

Lower back pretty awful today

Mark3 can testify as to how it's making me act like an old cripple.

Maybe I am an old cripple?

Liz has sent me a glutes "circuit". I need to work on this. Time to act.

Note

Pilates, 1:1 with an instructor from Soul Pilates, in town. an hour.

Not convinced, but will join a (equipment, she reckoned) class & take it from there....

As a bad omen, my LH glute/lower back spasmed slightly as i tried to cycle home. Hmmmm.
4 PM

Running 45:54 [4] 10.0 km (4:35 / km) +90m 4:24 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Tempo / glute-"activating" Stoke park / UWE / Stapleton run.

Bashed out a few segments. Couldnt' help myself :)

Bit of a dog issue on Pur Down. Stupid cnut.

Obviously feeling rested post-Southern champs, but annoying pain in LH glute / lower back. Lay on floor afterwards & tried to engage spine, as instructor had told me. Could be helpful!! Am hopeful - but no quick fix.

Hardly tired at all - reckon I'm in sub-40 minute 10k form based on that.

Note

Indoor roped climbing at UCR with Katrina. For nearly 3 hours.

Full on session, about 15 routes, including my first clean onsight of a 6b+ this autumn - a very steep & strenuous line.

Katrina was incredible, flashing two 6a+'s. She's tiny & still has ME/CFS symptoms. Pretty worrying.

Very tired later - cumulation of the past 3 days.
