Orienteering race 38:43 [5] 5.6 km (6:55 / km) +70m 6:30 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

POM Middle, day 2, Quiaios

Racing too hard, but lovely early forest meant i was happy, sadly i got wrong code in head for no ? , spiked it but assumed wrong control. ran off, realised , ran back,. argh! 45 secs binned. can't do this at this speed.

Much worse was to come. Both graham Patten & I crossed the WRONG stream, into a vile block of green forest, he lost 2 mins, I lost over 3. Now out of it - 17th?

Cross with myself. There's always tomorrow. I'll make amends.
(that was the problem ).

10 AM

Orienteering race 36:52 [4] 5.3 km (6:57 / km) +70m 6:32 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

POM day 1 middle - hard & green early on, tried to not cock up, nearly made it but missed on no 6 & 8, total of 3 mins?

Worrying to see both Megan & Ben in the thick green vileness , also finding it tough & making errors. I'm out of my depth here.

Picked it up later on the superb runnable bit & went into super-spiker mode. Even announced on the run in as "new first place M55" "Phil Moooray".

5th, 4 mins down, very pleasing; a lot of better orienteers clearly found it a a lot harder, not just the m55s, the elites too.
7 PM

Orienteering race 13:05 [5] 2.51 km (5:13 / km) +60m 4:39 / km
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 6

POM night sprint. 2.5km. Completely fab!

Ran the whole lot, modest Petzl headtorch on, occasionally sprinting, and loved it! no real errors tho a few minor hesitations.

we (Paul, Laurence, Dimitry & Antoine) commandeered a ringside bar table for 4 HOURS whilst this went on - I started first, so was back & chilling for a while - a massively enjoyable evening which ended with pizza, beers & me on the podium in 3rd, 1 second ahead of 4th (thank you SIAC!!)

And so ends Super Saturday! Phil will never see the like of it again. Just wait til tomorrow. (I do wish tomorrow never comes sometimes!)

Note

Walked to Frome gorge to the tunnel by crags, where i'd seen chalk yesterday, & did some bouldering. I wont be doing this again - it's really crap, actually, but couldn't face going indoors & paying £8 when I could be in the sun outside instead. for free.

One hold broke later - at the worst looking sport climbing area imaginable - and i fell to the ground, at which point i bagged it all off, as i have a few races coming up.....

Stunning day. Walked about 3-4 miles.
6 PM

Running 12:15 [2] 2.2 km (5:34 / km) +20m 5:20 / km
(injured) shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Gentle run out as hamstring felt squiffy , & wanted to give myself peace of mind. 12 mins round the blocks, no garmin.

All ok, but hamstring still weird on return! (the one I pulled on Christmas Day - Crappy Christmas)

12 PM

Running 49:04 [3] 9.12 km (5:23 / km) +110m 5:04 / km
(injured) shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Stunning day - had to go out - steady run / looking at 2002 Eastville Park BOK map, plus Ben Mitchell's embryonic Glenside urban section - got nicelly lost inside there!

Being charged by two large brown dogs ("puppies"), wasn't very nice.

Some of the crags by the river were nice, but the tunnel on the map isnt' really OK unless you're 3 ft tall....

LH calf makign strange sensations, & back quite shit today, so hopefully nothing. NO MORE TRAINING for 2 weeks???? (POM; Interland).
