Orienteering 1:28:54 [4] 12.68 km (7:01 / km) +386m 6:05 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 265 Blue

Determined to "do" a Southern Champs course in the FoD out of bloody mindedness.

Changed mind re. New Beech at last minute, as know it too well. Found Lydney Park 2010 M45L, which i apparently came 5th in 73mins , Feb 2010.

Parked near no 18, and missed finish field. Started at no 18. route to no 19 total brambles - awful. Went round paths. Map showed my 2010 route and sadly this influenced me masses, not really taking different routes. Brambles near no 8 & 9 biblical. Just - no!!!!

Many signs saying "private woodlands - do not enter" & "shooting may be in progress" . Disturbed dozens of pheasants. Didn't feel very comfortable. Was not wearing BOK gear! ;-)

the long leg took me about 11-12 minutes, i think Clive may have done it sub-10 in 2010.

Generally a horrible experience but good training & thighs, whilst not perfect, held up fine with the 386m of up & down.

Running 37:16 [3] 8.04 km (4:38 / km) +94m 4:23 / km
shoes: Brookes Ravenna 8

Good run over Stoke park in fantastic sunshine. one segment effort, & kept pace up around that. Thighs were mercifully much improved. Let's hope it stays that way now, please.

Having watched world XC champs all day (Denmark) - which was excellent & highly recommended.

Steady chatty stoke park run with Tim.

DOMS in thighs still a problem, but is it DOMS? it comes on WHEN i'm running. And only since my virus (3 weeks ago). Just...... wrong / odd. And effing annoying. WHY?

Orienteering race 36:00 [4] 7.53 km (4:47 / km) +40m 4:39 / km
shoes: Innovate Terraclaws

BAoC army Barracks easy race, Shrivenham Barracks?

Fun easy 4.9km (direct NOT optimum route!) semi-urban race; could have worn flats . 36 minutes dead.

Fine until last 5 mins when DOMS returned to thighs - WTF? Eh? What is going ON here? No DOMS in thighs for years now it's every run. Post-virus 2-3 weeks ago. Hmmm.

No real errors.

Didnt' stop Garmin properly & it got stuck in stupid splits eternity, so this is wrong. 36:00.

Note
(rest day)

Definitely no spare energy today for any sport.

Note: Clio has read this and said: "Grim. It sounds like norovirus. Highly contagious, can catch it from about a 2mm sized bit of exposure. Even from the handle of a toilet!!"

reading this, she's right. I had all that. gotta feel bad for the people on the same flight as me.

Literally.

DOMS gone.

I will never understand bodies.

EDIT - I won yesterday - woop woop. http://www.splitsbrowser.org.uk/splitsgraph.php?ev...
11 AM

Orienteering race 44:49 [5] 6.6 km (6:47 / km) +130m 6:11 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

TOAC race Foret de Rieumes, south of Toulouse, hot, with Pete James & family, entered Violet Longue,. 5km / 130m. Still got DOMS in thighs.

Hot, scrappy start, scrappy map / area, Pete started after me so a bit concerned when i lost 30 secs at no 1 & similar at no 4, & 5.

Plugged away with the heat & the grotty green shading, got lucky a few times, map well dodgy at no 15, but it was given away to me by another runner. Really struggling up big hill at the end - am I unfit?

Turned out Pete never found no 14, despite trying several times & walking in from a path junction (i reckon map wrong) - it may have been 40m wrong, I would concede; & he also misread 18 for 8 so tried to find 8 repeatedly & then went to 17 not 8! #outofpractice.

Was winning outright by 7 mins? when we left, Pete DNF, but a fine day out. Soon to change see later.
