Note
(sick) (rest day)

Easy day transferring self & tent etc to a chilled out sports/welllness centre north east of Graz, Kumberg, welt wellness camping, cheap, seems v quiet.

Felt rough enough today / in car etc. to still be pretty concerned, but I’m sure it’s easing. Let’s have a 18 minute urban sprint & see what happens, shall we? 7pm tomorrow.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Very easy recuperation day in Lienz, hanging out by tent all morning, ventured out to a scenic lake later, & drove up to a hut. Storm came in, much lightening.

Definitely feeling less ghastly, but can’t imagine running a race. Or three. They start Friday evening.

Fingers crossed. Will move on to Graz tomorrow & chill for another day.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

I have to admit I’m feeling crap.

So the alps curse returns. Had hoped to walk/easy via ferrata today above cortina but instead am sat in a field doing nothing but looking at the views.

I know fridays excursion did this to me, & I think the time has come to stop trying to try to be someone who can take on alpine excursions. This happens every year; it’s not going to change; no one will ever understand why; & happily Liz is at home so (contrary to the mind-body brigade who always seem so keen to attribute a psychological explanation for everything- urm, why?) (& I knew this anyway), my ghastly reaction to alpine excursions beyond the trivial had *nothing* whatsoever to do with Liz.

I’m sure I’ll feel better tomorrow. Now decamped to Lienz in Austria where I’ll recuperate/relax for a day or 2.

Note
(rest day)

Essentially a rest day, Mike & I did some new short climbing routes near Fedaia pass. I called mine #acceptable. Graded IV, 4a/b

Rain/cold. Felt rotten most of the day. Suspect fridays steep & high day on the wire is to blame. Hmmm.

S&C 1:00:00 [3]

Multi pitch rock climb below passo rolle, with beardy mike, 7 pitches, I led 3, amazing rock. All done in 3 hours! Extremely high quality granite. V pleasing & fun! Certainly took my mind off the fact I’m not feeling too great. http://www.sassbaloss.com/pagine/uscite/tognazza2/...

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Integrators

Had bought a training map of passo rolle so wandered into the area to try the 3km “.difficult” course. Was incredibly tough & many flags were either not there anymore, or I couldn’t find them. Had to walk most of it- v tough & unrunnable with much windfall.

Orienteering race 46:12 [5] 4.5 km (10:16 / km) +130m 8:58 / km
shoes: VJ Integrators

Primiero O week final day- middle- val canali, rather than spend €25 on a 3.7km course I borrowed Jason Hayman’s map & ran that, sneakily starting one forest road higher which meant horrific bush whacking thru felled crap as a warmup - 150m climb?

Course/area grim- steep, teetery slopes & mincing descents or v steep climbs- my least favourite. Struggled to read detail on map esp. at 10 & 11. Terrible time, over 50% slower than M 16 winner, but I was pooped from yesterday & lost a lot on no 11- as did Jason.

I need a rest...... https://strava.app.link/EgnZE5y2hY

Climbing (Via ferrata ) 3:00:00 [4] 5.0 km (36:00 / km) +1150m 16:45 / km

Hard steep via ferrata above san martino, rather than the option of more orienteering on the same map at €25 as yesterday. Took a bit of a beasting- foot/toe now sore. Write up on strava..... https://strava.app.link/pQjuecRGhY

Hope I’ve not done any damage to my foot/toe, or (gulp) my health....... we shall see.
