shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

Oo cup day 2, long, v v tough area ,plugged away with few errors except path disaster after no 7, cost me the win.

Health seems normal again (13 days since the error!); massive relief. Even coping with the heat ok . V glad I’m “acting my age” unlike others!

Up to 4th now from 8th yesterday. 2nd today. All quite close tho.

Orienteering race 56:16 [4] 4.6 km (12:14 / km) +130m 10:43 / km
(sick) shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

OO Cup day 1, 3.6km haha!

Left (reluctantly) the paradise of Kranjska Gora & went to this ski place well above Bohinj. Very , very hot- got to 33 later. Due to health, & Kim advice/directive, plan was to walk & jog. No 1 I walked & jogged to within 20m of my control, when a really annoying woman accosted me just as I stopped to try to fine navigate. “Where’s my control? No 111. Show me on map!!!!!”

Oh ffs.

“Now you show me on my map, where are we?”

Ok. But I’m only walking/jogging, but that’s enough? I went down hill, woman on my case. Control . Guess what.

It’s hers not mine. Oh FFS!!!!!!!

Back up hill . There’s mine. Near where she accosted me. 4 mins binned; 9:32 to no 1; like dolomites stage 2. I actually nearly quit there & then.

Bumbled along, walk/jog/crazy unrunnable; so hot; some legs were fab!!!! Really nailing the nav at my snail like pace. Sadly, near end, after spiking 4 controls & feeling smug (if hot), all paths made no sense. Evie had the same issue here. 6;42 on a 4 min leg. Argh.

Felt rough/had a funny turn an hour after finishing- just so hot! Rest of day trying to find a place to camp & ended up back at arena! Too tired to care. Beer & long stage tomorrow. What can POSSIBLY go wrong? :-))

(sick)

Slept well in apartment on sofa. Woke feeling clear in head. Stunning day- hot- 28 degrees- luckily Kim had found a shaded crag to take Ella for some real outdoor rock climbing.

A good day, 5 routes, grades total sandbags. Eg. 5a felt like hvs 5a, & the one 5b we did was solid 6a/6a+. Ella seconded EVERYTHING clean. She then led her 1st route! She’s 10. & about half my height......OK.......Kim completed the “Tim Tett challenge” of following me up everything (*just about!)

Brain remained clear of fog all day. Visited the lake up the valley (from Kranjska Gora) after dinner- stunning- this place is awesome. I have to come back when I’m more robust. What took me so long to come here in the first place?

(sick) (rest day)

Travel to Slovenia, to the Baxters apartment in Kranjska Gora. So good to join them!

But sadly my brain fog is back, this is major payback for yesterday. Unless I improve overnight, OO Cup is going to be a walk-retire job for me.

This is a very high price to pay for a single mistake 10 days ago. A v difficult day; mentally getting hit hard by my continuing woes- which isn’t surprising. :-(

Orienteering race (Urban ) 52:59 [2] 6.22 km (8:31 / km) +120m 7:46 / km
(sick) shoes: Innovate Terraclaws

Graz Euro city race final day. No guarantees I was well enough but headed in early & found my brain fog was clearing after 8 days’ unrelenting misery.

Trundled round my course but found the astonishing city sites the planner took us to very enjoyable. Walked a lot & certainly walked all hills. Couldn’t resist a quick “rage split” near the end where apparently I beat Quentin by 1:02! (He messed up.... but still won all 3 stages with ian Maxwell 2nd & David hunt Bok 3rd).

16 ? Mins down in Quentin but not an issue.

Spent afternoon slowly retracing parts of the course & seeing some of the outstanding sights of Graz. Plus cafes etc.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Another difficult day. Dmitry is in town, in touch, and racing, as is David Hunt, & Quentin. http://styrianodays.suso-club.at/files/cret_final_...

But after my daily trip out in car to the local Spar for essentials, and noting its 28-29 degs in the shade, I've made the only sensible option, which is to rest again in shade by tent all day.

Managed some hand washing & chores. Failed at Chas's sudoku though :-(

I'm still optimistic. I must be mad. Just STAY AWAY FROM BIG HILLS.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Much too ill to consider going into Graz, let alone trying to run a sprint urban.

This is going from being awful, to being a near disaster now. Spending day in shade near my tent, trying to relax. Mentally getting hit v hard all alone now. Wish I was at home.
