Note
(injured) (rest day)

Blood tests showed that , since early/mid December, my white blood cell count has gone down 21%. Quite a lot. That's good.

My eosinophilia has gone down 62% from 1.61 to 0.61 - making me wonder if there was a typo? Also good. as within range. (this caused my huge stomach operation in 2017).

Red blood cell has gone down 4%, which is disappointing but probably explained by the fact I've been unable to train at all due to ill health for months.

Lymph count also down 11%, which i believe is good too.

Onwards & upwards. Liz is walking in the street! for 60m. Excellent! nearly 3 months for her, too......

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Knee pain is definitely back, and pressing the sore spot at the inside is tender, so it's not a "blip". I iced it last night as a "precaution" - didn't work.

Absolutely no idea how this can be. I had NO PAIN in Portugal at all. & raced 5 times in 4 days. Walked an hour on the training day, no pain.

I visited Liz (now nearly walking, 3 months on) yesterday. Knee hurt walking to hers form my car. I'm am very against "mind/body" stuff, but given my knee "injured itself" during my main period at Liz's caring for her, is that to be questioned? really? I mean, REALLY??????

K-Tape back on. And the huge support that I took to POM but never needed...... WTF .....

Perhaps this is not remotely a running injury. may do BOK event tomorrow and see. what have i got to lose? 4 months non-training?

Can I have some peaceful weeks with no issues PLEASE? Ever? I'm hating this.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Knee pain back - notable when visiting..... Liz. Assumed it was a blip.

POM day 4 results are up & Connie just behind Clive.

I was 8th overall, but Graham would have made me 9th had he completed.

I'm chuffed to be intact & that is better that I'd hoped. Especially after the Long where i wanted to stop, it wasn't working on any level.

Rest up & come back. Warmley, maybe. Not ready to risk "training" yet, nor climbing (knee).

Overall:

Orienteering race 37:50 [5]
shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

POM final day 4, middle, Paiol again, 5.5km

DOMs had eased (work that out), had a go, Chas started 4 mins after so was trying to keep it snappy.

2 small route choice errors, c. 1min in total.

Faded near end unlike yesterday - I'm done!

Good result, probably only 9th but close up on the stars. Clive 35:13. 4th Brit again, after another good run! 2019 is so last year.

not sure re. overall as Connie has no time so no points. Hoping for 8-10th place, was 10th after 3 stages including my day 2 horror show.

Orienteering race 37:19 [5]
shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

POM stage 3 - middle, Paiol-Sines, 5.3km.

DOMS horrendous - not been this bad since OMM 2015. Hobbled to start. Shuffled off the line, wincing.

Grovelled to no 1 behind a mini-"train", who pulled me to no 2.

Shuffled to the hills before no 3 and just got stuck in. Then let instinct take over & realised that despite the pain I may as well have a go - good result - 8th, no real errors; put the boot in later & won / joint won a couple of splits.

Graham P back & ahead - very glad! Connie lost 4 ins at no 3 & I "beat" him - unreal.

Orienteering race 1:06:17 [5]
shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

POM day 2 - LOng. 8.8km, quite flat ; hot.

Possibly the worst run I can recall. terrible nav miss at no 1, due to idiotic compass "work", then 30 degs out on line to no 2 - 5 mins binned in first 10 mins.

Then blew up about 10 mins later (despite only "jogging"), and was reduced to a shuffle / walk. found it desperately hot. walked all hills later. DOMS in thighs became distressing. Walked the flat bits later, when ground uneven. Totally dead. Contemplated retiring. No point.

POM for me is over? (overall ) - 23rd. 18 mins down, 13 & 14 behind C&C.

Connie was ludicrous - sub-50 for 8.8km anyone??

Orienteering race 29:27 [5]
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch 6

POM day 1 urban - Santiago, 5.2km 29:27 10th

Urban, knee taped up, hot, steep . Immediately died on the first hill and was a dying fish the whole way . Mouth dry as a desert. Horrible! Hopeless on hills & heat. one 30 sec error later.

10th. a proper shocker , had to lie down feeling faint afterwards, got quite worried for a bit. I've been ill as well as injured & unfit.

Clive, Charlie & Graham Patten ahead. Not surprised.

You do no races on roads in months then 2 in a day!

POM night sprint, was highlight last year Graham P started a minute after me, so was running scared - but cooler, so running fast! few errors.

Crap heartorch let me down later and head "went" in the park - 25 seconds? - so could have almost been 3rd but 6th in the end, 48 secs behind Clive & Connie even faster. Much fun. MUCH fun.

Sadly Graham P had fallen & was unconscious on the ground, we were all very worried. Also v worried as Old Daniel was down & out before even reaching the start, 2 ambulances, both for guys I knew.
