Climbing (Sport) 1:00:00 [3]

Day out with Steve at Perch quarry near Cheddar, sport climbing for a change!

really good - 6 routes, one failure on a 6b+ - too hard. 2 6a+ & was doing moves much harder (due to safety) than I do in Avon gorge.

Was last here in 2012 & 2010, where I climbed a lot harder than I can now.....

Just a lovely day out tho. Battered.

Running (Turf) 1:00:27 [3] 12.47 km (4:51 / km) +140m 4:35 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 11

Steady (jogging at first) Turf run, to get all the UWE turfs back

Sped up a bit later, felt very relaxed today after 5 day's climbing in a row.

Bit bored of the zones now. elapsed time 7:30 more...... sigh.

Note

Walk with Liz - Frome valley, 5 miles.

Notable in that she still really really struggles on steep or broken ground (walking stick / needs a hand / slows 90%). Nepal later this year (injury 15 months ago)? - don't think so. Poor Liz.

(she's pretty fine on the flat, you'd not know her knee disintegrated dec 2019)

Legs tired from run.

Climbing (Trad) 1:00:00 [2]

Trad climbing Avon gorge with Dave Ball, a new contact

I led everything (he too nervous) - Piton route (classic rock)
Then
Reveille - hard crux - spooky. Pitch 2 great - HVS 4c, 4c.

Another good day 5th in a row.

Running race (Time trial) 36:00 [3] 8.04 km (4:29 / km) +18m 4:26 / km
shoes: adizero adios 4

Mike's EU marathons time trial - me as pacemaker - went off too fast but it all felt like a jog!

Mike stuck to 7mins/mile for 4 miles, but sadly the wheeels came off as his sore achilles starting turning into what is a calf strain. Gutted for him as he hobbled in - he wanted his 2 pbs (21:43 at 5km & all was great then).

I felt brilliant, kept feeling I could sprint away. Hope i'm now over the after effects of the vaccine.

Gutted for Mike tho. He's now laid up.

Climbing (Trad) 1:00:00 [3]

Avon gorge trad climbing with Robyn, a new contact.

She climbs harder than me on sport, but wont' lead trad, so i got to lead everything.

two HVS's, she coped fine on second, with a rucsac on!

No ill effects from run earlier. Activity day!

Climbing (Trad) 45:00 [3]

Easy afternoon avon gorge with Alex (Italy) trad climbing, clarion VS 4c, amazing, not done since 2002, then Petros, VS, again great value. I led the two crux pitches.

Another great day. Alex delighted.

Running 15:14 [3] 3.22 km (4:44 / km) +20m 4:35 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 10

Short 2 miler as easy week & taper for 5 mile helping Mike pace on thursday. http://mikeseumarathons.blogspot.com/2020/ - hoping for 35mins.

Would have preferred to have felt better than that - lungs a bit meh. Hmmm. Still wondering if I'm not over the vaccine.

Stupidly put old shoes on - no biggie. (didn't notice til after!)

Climbing (Trad) 1:00:00 [3]

Trad climbing in Avon, sun came out, with Dom G.

Lovely warmup HS 4b, sunny spot, high above traffic.

then a "VS" which was a sandbag right from the off. A lot of issues, i wont' elaborate, but I've had better days & easier times on a route. I also feel I've used up a life (I assume I'm a cat & the nine are going down now). at 2 points, had a hold snapped, I would likely have died. (elsewhere, a hold did snap, & yesterday, bouldering, a foothold snapped. It's common)

Still. Made it. Hmmm. Do i want a hobby for which failure can mean death or serious injury? Not sure. But i love it. there are safer options...... eg. climbing walls. Oh hang on - they're SHUT.

Climbing (Bouldering) 45:00 [3]

Walk & boulder in Frome valley, found a new Bloc, plenty of fun to be had tho I tried not to over do it , as last week. Definitely a worthwhile workout.

Topped out a few times, & from each , a fall would have been appalling. I'm not comfortable with it. Give me ropes anyday.

One turf in the valley on the walk out. May cycle tomorrow & grab masses more.....

STILL tired.
