Orienteering race 59:08 [5] 9.99 km (5:55 / km) +170m 5:27 / km
shoes: Innov8 MudClaw 300 2019

SLOW's OK Nuts trophy , Short brown (M45/M50), Winterfold & Pitch Hill (as Harvester 2014). 8km / 310m or was it more ? Or less? no idea.

Good strong run despite sluggish early on ( very poor night last night). Briefly "lost" en route to no 2 (long leg), but otherwise no errors , slight wobble at no 10 as Charles B-Gardner seemed to take a crazy west turn out of no 9, - he was wrong, but I lost ~30secs convincing myself I was right .

14-finish (map turnover) I really went flat out, as i'd decided to try to get under 60, which I managed. Treated this as a middle "race" within a race.

2nd on course behind Megan (3 mins down?), first in all others (M18, M45, M50). Jules strong on Brown though.......

Nigel B made howling errors in the easy section at the end - but i was already ahead, and my last km took me 4:20......... revenge for Devils punchbowl, 2018 where he took the title & the Southern champs from me.

Running (Time trial) 22:49 [3] 5.02 km (4:33 / km) +20m 4:27 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 11

Sian's latest paced 5k attempt, but brought fwd due to crap forecast tomorrow. She'd been swimming earlier, which didn't bode well .

on the long uphill drag, there was a nasty headwind, & pace dropped badly.

By 2km she was on the ropes (4:20 first km), and tho we were on target at halfway (11:00), it was game over, she finished in just under 23mins. 4 years ago I paced her to 21:35 on same course, so somewhat disappointing.

plus WU & WD & we'll try again in a fortnight. Nice to get out tho

Climbing (Trad) 1:00:00 [3]

Big trad climbing afternoon in Avon with Dom, an E1 eliminate, which had a savage early crux (nearly came off), but was eventually fab. Also a repeat of Malbogies, the most famous route here. Not easy, and Dom had a big problem on the crux pitch resulting in me losing a wire runner. Oh well! All was fine by the time it was dark & we were in a pub yard. Pub three evenings in a row now - and two pubs last sunday - not bad!

Really need a break from this mind. Scotland beckons.

Climbing (Trad) 45:00 [3]

Trad climbing, at the extreme end, Uphill Quarry, with Scared Dave

My last chance to climb (on lead) the E3 we did end March (in colder , windier conditions)

Dave rigged it & went up chalking holds & shouting advice, then i pulled the rope & tied on.

There was no decent gear for over 12m, and when falling was 100% NOT an option, and i started to get scared, a handhold broke and I could have decked .... but i stayed on. Dave's face.............. he was v scared so think how I felt.

Somehow i managed the next two moves to a crack where i was able to stuff in not four but SIX pieces of protection, as the hardest climbing was still above me.

I was fine, I just cranked but the top, I was almots unable to move.

This, guys, is as far as we go with this game. Back to easier routes now please - or ones with bolts. I've done two E2s & an E3, and that's my season.

I've facebooked it & here is a pic of the crux - the lucky chap has ropes ABOVE him - I didnt'. https://www.ukclimbing.com/photos/dbpage.php?id=21...

Orienteering race (Urban) 38:56 [5] 8.6 km (4:32 / km) +62m 4:22 / km
shoes: adizero adios 4

BOK urban, Horfield, v chilly. 8.7km optimum route Long

Clean apart from no 7 where a runner came out of what i assumed was the right drive - it was, but the control was on the OTHER side of a green line, so all the way out again, all the way back in ; 1min+. Had just passed & worked hard to drop another runner, so had to do it *all over again* ....

Felt good & fast & was flat out feeling v fit - yet a fair few "younger veterans" (Tommi, Scott) extremely close. Dan Weaver again had me by seconds.

Good eve following by pub - cold again - for beers & pizza.

6th. Eddie is now an insane athlete of outstanding ability. Owain still v fast but was scrappy early on. Ollie Tonge seems super fast now......

In Vet55, at her race, I'd have been 4th male Vet55 (5th Vett55 of both genders, of course).

Running 34:29 [3] 6.71 km (5:08 / km) +55m 4:56 / km
shoes: Brooks Ravenna 11

Steady run in Frome valley / oldbury / snuff mills. Had walked this exact route with Liz earlier. wanted to see how far it was! Felt OK, but my "new" garmin always tell me how slow I'm going it would seem!!!!!! What a ploddy pace.

Weather then broke utterly, another washout May b.Holiday monday.
