Hard race! I had a wonderful race though. I had ZERO GI issues. this has always been a problem and today it wasn't. The only difference was I drank much less coffee. (coffee maker at house i was staying was broke and french press sucked so i had like 3/4 a cup or maybe a 1/2 with a lotta grinds). I started in the middle of pack because I was afraid of going out too fast. I felt really good so I knew there was a risk of being dumb. =) I warmed up easy first 2-3 miles and once the single track opened up and we were on a slight downhill I got going. (some guys i was staying behind who were starting slow early too were real jerks. I passed one and he said "yeah, I'm gonna rip it until mile 33. not like that girl that is ridiculous. she is gonna burn out.") I was so pissed that actually was some motivation that i was gonna beat that jerk. (he said earlier he runs a 3 hr marathon so i knew he was fast). So I just kept cruising. I did jog more of the uphills than I used to do. and I just kept passing people. No one ever passed me. I got up to the second female (who I thought was first) and ran with her for a bit. she was so nice and we ran very similar paces except downhills I was much faster so I left her. There was an out and back part and first guy passed me and then THE FIRST WOMAN was right behind him. So then i realized I don't know where i am. At mile 33, they said I was second but I knew that first girl was way ahead by like 45-60 minutes. So I just planned to get second and I pushed hard as I could. I was doing 7:20s down hill and hiking or slug jogging up. hahah The last 2.5 miles were downhill or flat and I was at 7-8 pace depending and the last 400m I ran as fast as I could to get second! 7th overall. BUT time was slow for 49 miles. I thought I'd break 9 hours but it was 9:28. The race was harder than I thought. I'm gonna compare to Marin Ultra Challenge and to NF 50 mile course. there were a lot of rocks and some sand which sucked. I still super stoked. I want to run a sub 9 hour 50 miler. I know I can do it. maybe not this course!
**I later looked at course differences - there was 14,000 feet elevation gain/loss at Ray Miller. The MUC was only 11K. That's why I was slower!!

Easy day with strides, leg swings and some drills just to stay loose

Warmed up 10 minutes then started. Pace was like 9:30s; 8:20s: 7:20 first set then 9s; 8s; 7:10 second 2 sets and last set was 9 easy; 7:45 marathon pace and 7 to 6:45 tempo pace with easy 5 minute jog cool down. feel great!
