Story time:
Background... I hate birds. I love dogs.

We were dogsitting a small springer spaniel over the weekend. She hiked and orienteered with us, got ticks removed, and increased the happiness factor in our apartment.

Monday morning we (me and the dog, Poppy) walked Boris to his bus stop which is right outside of our apartment. There is a little square where a man was throwing bread to pigeons.

After Boris' bus left, Poppy was in a stance "hunting" the pigeons. She was so cute... as if she was really a hunter. She stood in the stance for about a minute before I got bored and said "Okay Poppy. Let's go." At that moment, she leaped towards the birds, they started flying, and she caught one. In her mouth.

Feathers flew everywhere, I grabbed her harness and started yelling at her to drop the bird, I shook her until the bird flew out of her mouth. The bird started rolling on the ground, clearly fatally wounded.

I was in shock... it probably took another minute of me just holding on to Poppy before I woke up, grabbed a newspaper, and put the bird in the garbage. It was super sad and traumatizing in the moment. People all around the square were making comments "That is bad... that bird is going to die" "That girl let her dog get a bird". I felt pretty terrible.

Poppy and I hurried back to our apartment and spent the next little while calming down. As we were recovering from the events, I thought, this is silly. She is a bird dog. Her entire purpose is to hunt birds. Pigeons are not only dirty pests, but also all-too-abundant. I started to think it was actually pretty rad of this dog. It makes me (we... Boris loved this story and hates that he missed it) love her even more.

Sorry Cristina... dogs are the best!

running 20:00 [3]

I am going to try to transition to more running (easy, so I don't hate it) instead of elliptical.

running 34:00 [3]

Warm up then two 4 minute intervals. This was harder mentally than physically.

elliptical 20:00 [3]

Adding in elliptical when I am mentally done running but want to up my time.
