An adventure run with some friends. We attempted to run up Mt. Bourgeau.
The first 7.2km are fairly runnable switchbacks in the forest. About 2km before Lake Bourgeau, the trail becomes steep so I switched to hiking. Lake Bourgeau is in a beautiful alpine meadow and most people will stop there. I was in the back with Linda, while the rest of the group was way ahead. There were some dark clouds coming and going and the peak of Mt. Bourgeau kept disappearing behind them. From the lake, it was another 5km to the top but on the way, was Harvey Pass. We continued on, through some beautiful meadows, up a scree slope, pass small creeks and into the pass. We decided to stop there as the top did not look very promising. Also, we saw three of our friends coming down so we waited for them. They turned back as well, as it was very windy on the exposed slope. The two friends who made it to the top said later it was not worth it as there were no views due to snow.
From Harvey Pass we could see Sunshine and some other surrounding mountains - it was spectacular! We ran together all the way back.
I will definitely go back when the skies are clear. It's 12.5km one way and it's a fairly easy hike.
(Time and distance adjusted as I forgot to turn the watch on on the way back)
