Walking 27:50 [2] 2.82 km (9:52 / km)

Mapping 20:06 [2] 1.17 km (17:11 / km)

After our training meet, I had an idea for another kind of training meet. So I mapped a small local park within walking distance of my house. I finished the map for the park and will check out my idea.

Walking 13:24 [2] 1.41 km (9:30 / km)

Orienteering race 18:51 [3] 1.5 km (12:34 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

This was the Line O (Window) course. A white map with the features in a circle around the control point. It reminded me of being forced to write left handed when you are right handed. I tried to follow through with the training aspect of this course which was bearing and distance. I became frustrated with my compass - a $12 one from target. I need to break down and upgrade. That was one important lesson learned. I have never done pace counting but can see where that would really help me in certain circumstances. Great idea for a course.

Orienteering race 38:57 [4] 2.53 km (15:24 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

This was the contour only map, it actually had contours, earth banks and cliffs on it. I had little trouble with this until I got to #6. I was trying to find the control in a ditch that was mapped as a water channel - so it did not show up on the map. This caused several trouble. I went back to 5 and started over again. Half of my time on the course was looking for #6. I realized I use contours a lot in my navigation. I just forgot that water channels are used on this map when the ditch is not .5 meters deep. Oh well. Again a great idea.

Walking 29:30 [1] 2.82 km (10:28 / km)

Looking forward to the training meet tomorrow. We've never tried that before, so curious how it will work out.

Walking 29:15 [1] 2.82 mi (10:22 / mi)

Fun walk in the sleet this afternoon. Looking forward to that first freeze to end the bugs for the year. I'm starting to design the Goat courses and then get Arnie to review the courses.

Mapping 3:09:00 [3] 7.64 km (24:44 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

I spent another day updating the map at Camp Crooked Creek. Of note, I came across a historical marker out in the middle of the woods. I felt bad for the guy, they put up a nice marker that waxed the elephant really well for him and nobody sees it. That will be a control marker for the two higher level courses. I could never get the intro course into it, to far from a trail to streamer. At least someone will see this guy's marker.

Mapping 3:57:00 [2] 8.98 km (26:24 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Spent the day updating the map at Camp Crooked Creek on the west side where the Goat will be this year. It's certainly steep out here. I got the course for the Kid laid out. I may get a chance to work on the Junior tomorrow. We have not used this side of the Camp in over 10 years. Great day to be outdoors today. Had a good discussion with the Ranger today, got all caught up on Camp projects.

Walking 29:15 [1] 2.82 km (10:22 / km)

After a dozen calls or texts finally got permission. There must be new procedures in place. I will try and figure that all out tomorrow. But I will be mapping at CCC tomorrow.
