Event: OLOU Night O

Orienteering race 1:30:26 [5] 10.1 km (8:57 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Ran the whole meet unusual for me. When I planned my route I did not think I could run the whole thing so I ended up leaving some controls on the table I could have gotten. The 5th control into the meet #48 was placed at the wrong ditch junction. It was only 15 meters N of the correct location but it was on the other side of a trail which was the obvious back stop. Just went into a Rogaine mode plenty of others looking for it. I lost the compass around the 10th control. I was a little nervous without it, so I did not go into the SW corner of the park after two controls down there because it's so confusing. The only reason I could find the controls was the reflective tape Jim had put on the stands. They had hung the bags low due to losing a control last year, but the tape for the most part made it easy to find. Control 50 was flat on the ground, I put it back up, I was the first one to it. I finished with 23 of the 28 and had 30 minutes to spare.

Walking 29:12 [1] 2.82 km (10:21 / km)

I was supposed to play Grandpa at the meet tomorrow night and take a 3 year old and 8 year old with me. I was thinking we could bag 2 or 3 controls in the dark at the Night O. Not sure now whether they will be able to go.

Walking 29:11 [1] 2.82 km (10:21 / km)

Received the last pieces of the download station yesterday from SI in Germany. The rest came a couple weeks ago from SI in CA. I've put everything together recharged printer and have reset time on the box. I will have the club use two download boxes for the night O so I can test everything. This will now complete what we need for our 3X meets - Yea.

Walking 29:18 [1] 2.82 km (10:23 / km)

Having wondered the woods a lot for mapping purposes. I met and have struck up friendships with a trapper and a geocacher. The trapper has invited me to go along with him and walk the trap lines. I'm still mulling it over. It would be something different and it's outside. I'm still trying to understand geocaching. It has many facets. I've come to understand some of them. I think the next time I do a Rogaine I might also have a geocaching course.

Walking 29:35 [1] 2.82 km (10:29 / km)

Heard back from NSF on my email. First their scoring is little different than I realized. They don't use the last digit of the control. So for control 63 they give 60 points for 54 they give 50. So my total was 420 they told me they had screwed up the bib #'s, putting mine on Vbenton and putting Vbenton on mine. Oh well, at least I know how they score now.

Walking 29:15 [1] 2.82 km (10:22 / km)

I was a little baffled by the NSF results that were posted. I punched 455 control points but was only given 1/2 of that. The time coming in was wrong and the team # was wrong. I emailed them. I just wanted to make sure I understand their whole process since I'm trying to learn new ideas on Rogaines.

Mapping 1:45:00 [2] 5.81 km (18:04 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

I walked the trails on the south side of McNeely Lake. When I went to put in the data from the GPS, I found out the map had never been GPS referenced. I am going to try and sweet talk Arnie into doing it. He has access to global mapper which makes it much easier. It's like a root canal for me to do it.

I was told the map was in horrible shape. It over all just needs a little updating it really was not that bad. You don't get lost using it. It looks like it was drawn from the LOJIC maps by Dan. Real crisp and sharp. Just some things have changed over time.
